We were lucky to catch up with GERARDO SUAREZ recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, GERARDO thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Music has always been part of my life, since I was a little kid I would play the drums and different instruments at my cousins house. It always made me feel at peace somehow. I had no idea that I wanted to take music seriously, till I was a senior in High School. We had to make this project in class about what we wanted for our future, I was 17 and completely lost… My mother was the one to encourage me to take the risk and live my dream, but wasn’t till I played for the first time in front a big group of people that I wanted to make people forget about their problems through my music for the rest of my life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those who don’t know me yet I am KUDDY (Gerardo Suarez). Born and Raised in Venezuela and now based in Los Angeles, CA. I got into the music industry through one of my best mates, he motivated me to join SHYFT Academy in Miami, where I meet the most talented, respected, humbled and caring people. I started by playing at house parties and small gigs for a crowd of 10 since then I’ve been working my way up.
One of my mentors always told me that with dedication, hard work and respect I would always reach the things I wanted. Since that talk I can say that the thing I am most proud of is besides achieving my short term goals is that I have earned the RESPECT of people inside this industry.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal is to travel across the world making thousand of people dance during hours, making them forget all kinds of problems that they might be having. Music connects us in ways that no other thing can do. Music cures the soul it helps you express any feeling or emotion. Music is the answer.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Well , having someone reach out to you saying how increible you made them feel during an hour set for example, it feels good, when someone tells you “I’m going to your gig just to forget my problems and dance till I cant anymore”, when you see the joey when they are at the dance floor just dancing, smiling and feeling the rhythm and you know they are having a good time… That is sometime that as a DJ makes you feel good, complete.
