We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gerard Kersey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gerard, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
We were working with a HS in Coney Island with principal Cradle. We were teaching the students about image, professionalism and success. During the classes co-founder of TSY Jamael Thompson developed a strong mentorship relationship with a young man named Dietric.
After the sessions we provided him with a suits and tie so he could attend his prom which he really wanted to attend but didn’t have any attire.
After which he attended college and graduated
Just this year as I was working with Jeff Lindor who is the founder of the Gentlemen’s Factory he put me in contact with a young man to work with me to prepare for the classes I was conducting
The young man was Dietric, who I had no idea was an employee. He reminded me of how powerful TSY was to him and the impact the mentorship and suit made on him.
We were extremely blessed.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is PK Kersey
I was born and raised in Brooklyn
I worked for NYS DMV for 24 years.
After years at DMV I began to notice I didn’t see alot of Black men in high positions and employeed there.
So I began a non-profit that provided training for interviews and professional attire as these were 2 major hindrances for them not being hired
As of today we have assisted over 20K individuals.
I have also authored 4 books which highlight image and success individuals secrets.

Still I Thrive
My mission is to assist and Empower men to achieve their greatest.
When a man succeeds, a whole family and community can succeed
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up in East New York, one of the main things we were taught was not to make new friends. Mainly to keep to yourself and stay loyal to them.
As I grew up I realized that to truly grow and expand it is vital to make new connections, relationships and network with others was a key ingredient to success

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
One of the most effective ways I grown my clientele has been the referrals and partners
Whenever we work with a client we form a relationship with them so that it is not just a one time connection but more of a long term partnership. By doing so this ensures a greater connection and more likelihood to be referred
Also brand partnerships with larger companies in similar fields where there is synergy for both companies
Example. Banana republic. Men’s warehouse and other clothing companies
