We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Geraldine Iheme. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Geraldine below.
Alright, Geraldine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
FEBRUARY/MARCH 2020.. During the Covid Era, I was stranded in the United States.. The Borders had closed … where I worked at that time, had stopped paying me salary because “I had exceeded my maternity leave”
I was completely alone in an Airbnb Apartment in Houston with my two babies in the midst of the COVID madness. I needed to survive .. I needed to hustle..
If you are a mom living abroad, you know how hard it is. Every Dime$ you make goes into the kids, the home.. rent etc etc..
I was running out of the products (my perfumes and hand creams) I had brought with me from Nigeria to sell while I was abroad to give birth to my son.
Dollar rates sky rocketed and my Naira was losing value.
That was when God planted the seed … “FACE COAT” in my head… And I ran with it.
I sat down and thought about creating a product that’ll solve a problem many moms like me were experiencing. We really do not have time for makeup, especially moms who just gave birth. We still have errands to run, doctors appointments, school runs etc etc and we definitely still want to look our best. Face Coat is a product created to solve this. It is everything in one bottle. So women can be done with their makeup in 5mins! The perfect makeup for minimalists!
By March I took Face Coat business/marketing seriously.
The response was unbelievable! First week and the orders kept coming in… week after week, more and more women were ordering FACE COAT.
The FACE COAT community has grown tremendously. We are like family. It’s been two years since I started this amazing journey with Face Coat. I still pinch myself to be sure I am not dreaming!
I wouldn’t have gotten this far without God and of course the amazing customers and investors who believed in FACE COAT.
Looking forward to more growth!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Geraldine. I wear many hats! I am a Lawyer, An Author– (A story teller)-I play the guitar, I am a mom, a twin and of course an entrepreneur.
I created this amazing one of a kind unique product called FACE COAT. Perfect for minimal makeup lovers, women on the go, women who don’t have time for makeup , women who don’t understand makeup, women who just want something quick and easy to use.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I stayed consistent. The key to increased success on social media is staying consistent. And this does not necessarily mean posting every day.
This means , on the days you post you are able to stay consistent with your brand. Your audience should be able to connect with you. Your audience should know “Your voice”- Know what you stand for.
This brings the right people to your page and gradually, you are able to build a community.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I use Flutterwave and Cashaam – These two platforms have helped me focus on other aspects of the business while the other parts like handling customer orders, shipping etc are handled by these platforms. There’s ease that comes with it. Plus it builds some level of trust in your customers, especially if you are just starting out as a small business owner.
