Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gerald Williams . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gerald , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
To be honest, at first asking someone to support your business can feel nerve reckoning. But if you believe in your self and your product your selling it becomes easier. Also Ive learned that support comes in many forms and doesn’t just need to be financial. For example sharing your content, commenting, referring others to come purchase product are all forms of support. So it’s ok if someone isn’t able to invest just ask them to show love and it can go a long way.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well hello everyone, for the ones who may not know me im Chef Gerald Williams from G N Da KREW CATERING CO. Im a private chef and caterer. I’ve been im the industry about 11 years now and decided to go into business for myself back in 2021. I’ve handled numerous events over the years and loved every minute of it. You name it im pretty sure I’ve made it or can make it I came up with name based of my own concept the people behind the scenes never get recognized. Like executive chef this and over that, no one ever recognizes the line cooks, prep cook’s, dishwashers etc who make them look good. So permanent reminder that it’s not just about me it’s about my team as well I put it the name G N DA KREW. Food is life and full of creativity that’s what makes a great chef the ability to adapt and create but that chef wouldn’t be anything without a solid team around him.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Lesson I had to reteach hmyself would be patience. In the cooking industry everything is mostly fast pace so working for someone I had the mindset hurry up get the job done on to the next task. When going into business for my self had to take a step back and slow down to makes sure I don’t miss anything or over look items necessary to build the business. Like I know it’s not possible to be perfect but taking the time to make sure I don’t have simple mishaps is great for the business.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Another lesson I had to re learn is entitlement gets you no where. Just because you feel like I went to this famous culinary school, that you should start off with the most money and with the highest Authority. Quickly in the industry you learn that, that doesn’t mean anything without experience behind your name
