Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gerald Griggs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gerald , appreciate you joining us today. So, folks often look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight – but that often obscures all the nitty, gritty details of everything that went into the growth phase of your business. We’d love to hear about your scaling story and how you scaled up?
I was able to scale up my practice by working hard to master trial skills and effective civic activism. All great lawyers of the past were first and foremost social engineers focused on making change to better society.
I have been focused on approving my community and seeking justice for my clients. People need to understand that success means hard work with a focus on making the community better.
Gerald , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the practice of criminal law after law school by taking a job with the public defenders office in Rockdale County in Conyers, Ga. I learned quickly that a successful criminal lawyer must understand that system is focused on convicting your client, so you must focus on deconstructing the system.
I shifted my practice after seeing the increasing social injustice in the early 2010s and focused on civil rights and social activism. I have been able to be a part of the biggest cases and biggest protests in Georgia history because of my focus on social justice. From the Atlanta Public School Cheating Trial to the Ahmaud Arbery activism, I have focused on empowering the community on how to achieve justice.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think being authentic and tenuous have help my build a strong reputation within the legal market. Being zealous and a fighter for the last 18 years has helped me develop a reputation as a skilled trial attorney and champion of social justice. People understand and respect someone that is truly passionate about what they are fighting to achieve.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing a strong clientele is to be consistent in the pursuit of honing your craft. In order to reach the top of any field, you must refine your skills and be dedicated to getting better every day. Customer will respect your strive for growth and you client roster will grow naturally.
