We recently connected with Geovanni Robinson and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Geovanni thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

As a young kid, my mother took me and my brothers to piano practice, and it was there that I began my musical journey. I didn’t care for it then, my passions were in astronomy and city planning. Somewhere along the way, I was exposed to the music of Motown, James Brown, and the many pioneers of soul music, and I began singing in school and church choirs and thanks to my mom’s order. I was invested in it, but it was only a pastime until I discovered Michael Jackson in 2009. His personality, music, and image was an enigma to me, and I began to sing and dance like him. Soon enough being a performer is what I was known for.

My first revelation was probably when I began to pick up theatre in high school. I was involved with a couple of plays such as “Guys and Dolls” and “Grease,” and they were highlights in my formative years. I was learning the nature of the stage, audio visual work, reading rock star books and pop music history and business more than I did homework, and it was clear what my call was.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Geovanni and I am an artist, producer, songwriter and engineer. I am from The Bahamas, and I’ve been based in Orlando now since late 2020.

Born in Miami Dade, FL, and raised around a musical family, the arts were what I naturally excelled at. I grew up singing in choirs and playing instruments like the piano and saxophone. In the fall of 2016, I began my musical journey whilst in college, and began to produce and release multiple projects with the help of my iPad. 

Yearning to expand my interests and build my audience, I enrolled to Full Sail University in 2020 for Recording Arts and graduated in 2022.

I am also a professional audio engineer and AV technician. I’ve been working with the company “Encore” since 2023 to create the best live shows for clients. However, I do see myself returning to architecture, as I love to draw.

My long term goal is to be the artist of the decade and place my mark in the minds and hearts of millions with my gift.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being a creative to me is the ability to inspire people with the ideas from your head. It’s mind-blowing to think about: you can enter rooms and elevate your life with the dreams you hold inside, and that is special.

For me, the inspiration to “save” another’s life is the best form of reward, because you’ve used your gift for good: you instilled something new and fresh into another’s heart, and you possibly gave them a new day to life toward. If my art has made someone motivated or happy or feel-good, I’ve done a good job. However, if my art has been the soundtrack to one’s life, given them new meaning or a beautiful outlook on life as a whole, I have won.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

So when I began to make music and make beats and mix and whatnot, I wasn’t good at all. I was trashed, people didn’t see the vision, my parents were like, “look at other ventures,” the entire works. This was around 2017. So I was like, “Okay, how do I structure songs, how do I mix, how do I write, how do I use my voice?” and I kept dropping songs, projects, and just continued on perfecting my craft and sound. What else could I do? Soon enough I got people saying, “Oh, you’re getting better,” “Oh, I like this and that,” but by that time I also didn’t care, I just wanted to make good music for me. Fast forward to 2023, I find myself on more playlists, my parents admire my drive and songs, and I got a group of friends who believe in me. If I stopped when they told me to, I would never get here.
