We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Georgie Renz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Georgie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

LadyJo Entertainment was created by Georgie Renz in 2019. In her quest for a classier experience with upscale venues and entertainment, she was often disappointed. Desiring more intimate spaces where music could be heard and enjoyed while in a chic ambiance with delicious food on decorative tables, rather than her lap, Georgie wanted to celebrate life with like-minded adults who appreciated the old school vibe and wanted to hear top notch entertainment. Those aspirations would lead her to working and traveling with many legendary entertainers, such as Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, and Anita Baker.
After much consternation, Georgie realized that if she wanted to truly enjoy great times, she’d have to make her own… and so she did. LadyJo’s love for good times, great music, live entertainment, and joyful people prompted her to establish her own organization.

Various positions in multiple Fortune 500 corporations had provided lots of experience to draw from, and sharpened LadyJo’s eye for detail. With responsibilities that included making reservations and arrangements for large groups, attending high profiled events, procuring venues for the elite, and servicing the who’s who of clients, the groundwork was laid, and her company was birthed. LadyJo’s experiences had taught her the importance of luxury, intricacies, decorum, best in class service, and what it took to provide top notch entertainment.

The culmination of a lifetime of knowledge and experience converged to become the catalyst for LadyJo Entertainment. Her long-established connections with the entertainment world painted the perfect canvas for her creations. Her attendance as co-sponsor for legendary concerts, red carpet events, movie, and television premiers nationally and internationally, resulted in her developing life-long friendships and partnerships with artists. We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.

I started and owned a dry cleaning business, Chic Dry Cleaners. I used very little money to start up front. I didn’t borrow money nor did I receive a loan of any sort. I uses poles and put large plastic letters from A to Z to sort and to hang the clothes to start off with instead of an expensive conveyer. I purchased slightly used equipment and I leased a van instead of purchasing one.

The location of my cleaners was placed between two towns so, I had access to multiple customers. When I sold my business, years later, I sold outright and owned nothing.

The lesson that I learned is to spend as little as you can starting your business. Watch your spending at all times. Keep an impeccable reputation and a clean and safe environment so when it is time to sell (make sure when you sell, your business will be financially at your selling peak) you business will be desirable and you will walk away at closing with your whole bag!

I fund my business from my own investments that I accumulated through stocks.
