Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Georgie Hasrouni. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Georgie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I created the Rebound Rewind YouTube channel on August 2, 2019. I have been creating content on YouTube since 2011 for my original channel known as AnimationRewind. The AnimationRewind channel mainly focuses on video games, cartoons, and anime, so content about basketball and sports would not directly fit the niche. Thus I decided I needed to start a new channel specifically covering the NBA and other basketball related topics.
The name Rebound Rewind pays homage to the original channel AnimationRewind, I try to have the word “Rewind” in my various YouTube channels so there can be brand commonality between them.
I have been a basketball fan for as long as I can remember, which is one of the main inspirations for wanting to create content related to the NBA. I knew that the sports commentary community on YouTube had a lot of competition in such a saturated market, but I have the ability to combine both animation and commentary into one easy to view style so I was able to stand out from the crowd and build a brand in this genre. This eventually led to the creation of even more sports channels: Touchdown Rewind (NFL), Ring Side Rewind (Boxing/MMA), Home Run Rewind (MLB), and Golden Goal Rewind (FIFA/Soccer).

Georgie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I make educational animations and commentary videos about basketball. These videos are animated and edited with Smith Micro’s Anime Studio and Moho Animation Software. My main “client” per say is essentially my audience. My main goal is to entertain and educate my viewers about the sport of basketball, NBA history, and NBA related news. I also work with brands from time to time to sponsor their business or products onto my channel. From a business perspective the goal is to reach as many viewers as possible, and from an artist perspective the goal is to make sure each video is of high quality. Trying to balance both can be a challenge, sometimes creating a high quality video on a niche topic won’t reach a large pool of viewers, and sometimes creating a quick reaction video to breaking news can get instant viewership despite the video itself being short and lacking edits.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
My business has a number of different revenue streams. Rebound Rewind is just one channel under AnimationRewind INC. In total I own and run 8 YouTube channels, 5 TikTok Pages, 2 Facebook Pages, and 2 Instagram pages. All 17 accounts have multiple ways to earn revenue, from direct video ads, sponsored content, merchandise sales, fan subscriptions, and Reels bonuses.
I also post music onto Spotify relating to one of my series: Cartoon Rap Attack, and I have mobile games on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. All of these different revenue streams combine for the totality of my media company known as AnimationRewind INC..

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media is something that happened over time, and in the beginning it was not planned. I started in 2011 when I was just 14 years old, creating videos on YouTube was just a hobby. For many new creators this is the best way to start out. If you enter your content creation journey with the intent to specifically have a full on media company on day one, you may come to the surprise that building a YouTube channel takes many years and a lot of experimental phases to see what type of content works and what doesn’t.
The best way to enjoy content creation is to have it start out as a hobby that you genuinely enjoy, and if that hobby grows and turns into a business, then you can build upon what you started. On the outside looking in, being a YouTuber seems easy, but on the inside looking out, there are many challenges in regards to keeping up with the search engine algorithms on each social media platform.
When you are starting a channel from zero with no outside connections, the best way to build up an audience is to create videos on topics that are easy to search. Now there will be a lot of trial and error to figure out what exactly will make your content stick out from the competition, and with so much content saturation if your topics are too broad, they may be hard to find in a sea of similar topics. My advice would be to find a niche within a niche. For example, I make basketball videos, but within the basketball genre, I have a very specific series known as, “NBA Facts that sound fake but are actually true.” This is a niche that statistic focused NBA fans would appeal to and can share with other fans who have similar interest.
