We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Georgia Shore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Georgia below.
Georgia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I figured out pretty early on that I wanted to pursue a career in film–age twelve, to be exact. I fell in love with movies when I took a film analysis class in sixth grade, where I was introduced to classics like Rear Window, Singin’ in the Rain, and High Noon. Our final class project was to create our own short film. The experience of teaming up with my classmates and bringing a story to life solidified my passion for the art of filmmaking, and from there my path was set.
Georgia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I chose the film school route to get my start in the industry, and attended Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts. There, I was able to focus my passion on the production department, an area that I think is often overlooked by aspiring filmmakers. I produced my senior thesis project, a short film which gained recognition at multiple festivals internationally and solidified my goal of becoming a film producer.
After graduating in 2021, I used the network I built in school to find work freelancing on various shoots across the Southeast, working mainly on indie films in Atlanta and my hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina. I have since worked in a variety of roles ranging everywhere from Unit Production Manager to Assistant Director to Producer, and even had a stint working in costumes for the Lifetime Network.
Recently, I have transitioned my production skills into the corporate sphere, focusing on commercials and brand videos. This has been a challenging and rewarding way to expand my skill set as a producer and explore new ways to tell stories and grow my career.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a filmmaker is being able to surround myself with other like-minded creatives. Working on film sets has allowed me to meet a ton of fascinating people, each with their own artistic abilities and aspirations, united by a shared creative vision. It’s incredibly rewarding to surround myself with a community that shares my passion.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As a woman working in the film industry, the unifying goal across all of my projects has been to uplift other women in film and create more opportunities for female filmmakers. The film industry is historically male-dominated and although progress is being made, we still have a long way to go before women are equally represented in the field. Despite this, I have been lucky in my career that many of my projects have included women-led or even all women-crews. The experience of working on a project with other talented and driven women is always an empowering one, and something that I strive to provide others with the opportunity for.
