We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Georgette Reynolds a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Georgette thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Over the course of your career, have you seen or experienced your field completely flip-flop or change course on something?
I’ve been in the wellness industry for about eight years now, I started my company in 2017 as an online juice bar. Shortly after college I had landed a job at Whole Foods and I quickly absorb tons of nutritional facts which I apply to myself. I’ve always had a dream of owning and operating a juice here in Atlanta Georgia. The first U-turn I took in business was being ginger five out of my first commercial space because I couldn’t afford the rent. During this time I learn to be patient with my progress and be patient with a plan that I had already laid out for myself. Yes it was going to take a lot of work to obtain my own building but yes it could also be done. I partner with a Black owned share a kitchen located in the west in area of Atlanta Georgia. And during this time we were in the height of the pandemic am I only plan was to thrive during that time however life would have it once again pivoting was the move. I scale my business quickly to seven figures and it invested in my first commercial property, I went to the property renting to own and the landlord change their mind midway through the contract. Yet again I am you turning. Throughout all the turns and learning curves well this has been the ground beneath my feet holding me up and yoga has help me have a piece of mine. Today I still have that space and it is my wellness hub. I teach yoga daily as well as a host of other wellness classes. We are even a resource her for the artistic community. My vice to anyone who is taking a U-turn in their professional career or their entrepreneur career is that be ready. Be ready to roll with the punches, be ready to adjust, be ready to expand, be ready to understand, be ready to fail, be ready to start again and be ready to never give up.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am determined, dynamic, persistent, ambitious, and full of faith. I am a beautiful sophisticated individual, called by the most high to be a leader, and example, and advocate for health and mental wellness. It takes a lot of discipline to walk in your purpose and living your truth. It also takes a lot of courage to help yourself and then be able to help others. I learned a lot of discipline through juicing, Learning what my body needs to actually process and function was always intriguing to me. Food being medicine was inspiring to me because what I eat determine how my body performed. I enjoy teaching people Learning from people and inviting them I say that you can change anything you don’t like you first have to just changed your mind. What what started it with a juice sale, through pop-ups in vending opportunities, I became more into my passion in talking to people and teaching the things that I have learned. My most favorite duty to date is the work I do in 89 senior citizen homes a crossed Atlanta Georgia. My team and I have a created a program that is called seasoned and fit. Where we motivate and encourage and come up with different workouts for senior citizens. We have also created this same platform for people with special needs specifically autism.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being a serial entrepreneur and knowing that you have Gifts, and knowing that you want to share them to the world a part of you become scared. Sometimes I would get scared about being my true self around others simply because I wouldn’t feel excepted. When you make up in your mind who are you want the world to know is you are you really begin to do the work on yourself. Whether it be the physical work the mental work the paperwork the financial work you have to be willing to put in the work. When working on your vision in your goals you have to remember to stay motivated for yourself also you have to remember why you’re doing it who you’re doing it for and the satisfaction you are going to feel when it’s completed. No matter what it looks like pushing forward on your vision understanding your why cultivating your tribe that’s how you succeed and that’s resilience. Hardwork+ dedication + determination = resilience..
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am currently in that state of pivoting in my business where as once I was known as a juice company now I are involving into a wellness Company and a brand. I realize that I had been a serial solo-preneur. Looking back on what work for the business and what didn’t work in areas that we could’ve improved in, one thing remain was that I was doing everything by myself Everybody needs a team, when you create your team and everyone has the vision that you have put forth out and everybody is working together to make sure it carries out that accountability piece is removed off of your shoulders and now you can lead your team for because you lighten the load in is not so heavy. Learning to trust people within my business was very hard for me because I didn’t trust people in my life yoga came into my life and I was able to trust the people around me during that time I was becoming a certified yoga instructor her. There was always a safe space to be myself and I was totally except it. After seeing what yoga did for me and my mental stability as well as my body. I wanted to share it with the world starting with the people I love my family my friends and my “JUGGs (name I have for my community that means Just Undeniably Gods Gift”.
