Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to George Weinstein. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
George, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I helped authors go further on their writing journey, learn more about the craft and business of writing, and enabled them to make their dreams come true.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As soon as I learned to read, I taught myself to write. Now, I’m the author of numerous novels: my best-selling Southern historical novel Hardscrabble Road and its upcoming sequel, Return to Hardscrabble Road (fall 2022), the suspense-thriller Watch What You Say, the Southern mystery novel Aftermath, the novel of forgotten US history The Five Destinies of Carlos Moreno, and the domestic drama The Caretaker. My true calling, though, is helping other authors realize their writing dreams. Through my two-decade involvement in the Atlanta Writers Club, I have run 26 Atlanta Writers Conferences (and counting), which have enabled dozens of writers to get representation and publishing contracts and taught thousands about the craft and business of writing. I’m proudest of these decades assisting other writers, and–because my wife and all my best friends are people I’ve met through my work with the Atlanta Writers Club–I consider myself the luckiest man on Earth.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a writer is getting to know so many brilliant, funny, fascinating artists. While I’ve been working hard to change their lives and creative fortunes, they made my life infinitely better. I’m the luckiest man alive because of them.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The Atlanta Writers Club was founded in 1914, but I had no idea this amazing resource of creativity and knowledge existed while I was struggling to learn about the craft and business of writing. Since becoming involved in one of the largest, most active writing nonprofits in the US, I’ve made it my mission to put its resources in the hands of as many writers as possible. I hope all creatives, wherever they are, have access to such an organization so they aren’t forced to learn the hard lessons on their own or spend years toiling alone, thinking nobody else understands their creative struggles.
