We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful George Soare. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with George below.
Alright, George thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
we at Tribute salon do things a little differently compared to the salon market in Romania! both technical and customer service related! in addition to beauty, we emphasize values and care for our customers! for example, at the beginning of the pandemic, before isolating ourselves, we anticipated that our activity would be closed and we created for each client a kit to dye hair at home. the fact that we have a history of each client in the database made it easy for us to we customize each person’s kit with the products and the color combination, but also all the materials he needed to make them technically at home! I even created step-by-step tutorials for them to better understand what they have to do at home! so every customer felt special and we kept the business going in a moment of crisis! other salons all over the world suffered financially! differentiating things matter in all businesses, but especially in businesses and services with people! how is the beauty industry! for example, several clients told me that we are often the first to wish them Happy Birthday, or that often people close to us forget but we don’t! and that’s because we send a message and a gift card with a hairstyle on the anniversary day!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a hairstylist, educator, manager and entrepreneur! I started my career 21 years ago out of passion for this art! I have always liked manufacturing things! everything started from playing with hair and people’s happy reactions! even now after so many years it is about the same things! I consider myself lucky that I had the chance to open my eyes in this profession with a good education and solid technical foundations! after several years of basic and technical work I started to explore and want more! I started training in the L’Oreal education team in parallel with working in the salon, and that’s how I managed to open up other opportunities in the years that followed! in the first 6 years with a lot of involvement, I created a customer base, a 2-year internship in France, where I assisted in the creation of shows, participated in several contests, created hair for videos, shows, fashion presentations and editorials. I joined the team of L’oreal Professionel ambassadors and in 2009 I opened Tribute Salon by George Soare together with Alexandra Visan as a business partner! since then there have been 15 years of permanent development, a lot of work but also many successes! our salon officially provides beauty services to the royal family of Romania, we are involved in many projects, we were awarded by Elle and Glamor magazines as Best Hairstylist of the year and many others. but all this would not have been possible without my team and the people who believed in me! I believe that education is the key to success! We at Tribute invest a lot in this aspect and I think that this made the difference on the Romanian market! In addition to technical education, we emphasized Communication, customer relations, ethics and art and craft sessions! I think that in the beauty industry it’s not just about services, we are creators of experiences, together with people in key, memorable moments from their lives! we help them regain their confidence or self-respect. beauty is a state, a feeling!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
for me and my business, the best method to always have new clients is word of mouth! it’s the safest way to access that customer segment that my business targets! and that’s because we focus on making our client’s image flawless all the time! he is practically our visiting card! like a billboard! we are also present in the online environment and this helps us to communicate on a larger scale and yes, it also generates new customers, but the loyalty rate is lower! and online customers buy a service, not an experience or a long-term relationship.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
first of all, absolutely all team members must share the same values and have a common mission! in my case, the fact that I have 3 roles in the company is both challenging and inspirational for my team! the way I treat my clients and colleagues reflects the quality of the business! we love our business and this motivates and helps the common goal! it’s about respect and professionalism!
