We were lucky to catch up with George Simpson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, George thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I totally wish I didn’t let my imposter syndrome tell me I couldn’t be a creative. I have always been a creative since I was a kid. But back then the older generations were blue collar hard working people that didn’t see the potential of being a creative especially in the space we are in today.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started as a blogger way back in 2010. Wrote about music, movies, and pop culture in general. Then I took a break and went back to school to be an engineer. I have always been a fan of podcast. Listen to them more than radio stations. So I started a podcast with my sister called The “meme”ing of it all. Built up a following and decided to do more podcast. I built a studio in my basement and started Sarcarrogance Media Group 2021. We started with 6 podcast the first year, that grew to 16 shows the following year. We also have a poet/singing/dancing dynamo with us. We currently have 9 shows and are going strong and always looking for more to join the team. I’m proud of our authenticity. We are us, we are independent so there wasn’t any censorship for us. We came out the gate running. Every show on the network is different but we are the same in a way. If you want authentic conversations that you have with your friends that isn’t cringeworthy come check us out. We have a show essentially every day of the week.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Spend money on the arts. I understand that theater and broadcasting isn’t the go to clubs but make it fun so that kids know that sports isn’t the only way. I played football from 4 years old till my first year in college. So I understand. But I also did plays and drama club which let me express myself in ways I couldn’t at home. Also give them the platform to shine. If you ask ten grade school children what they want to be when they grow up I promise you 4-5 of them are going to say YouTuber. The internet isn’t bad. There are just bad people on. Filter your way through it for your kids just like the people in real life. You don’t watch every channel just like you don’t talk to everybody. Let your kid be a creative and with hard work they can buy you a house.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My current goal for myself and my company is to continue growth and learning. We are starting creative classes soon at Sarcarrogance where people can join us on Streamyard and learn podcasting 101, how to create in Canva, how to use Streamyard, etc. I always tell people that I am going to own BET one day. Not saying BET literally but to be able to have a television network with great entertainment to share with the masses is a dream. I been making people smile since I was in pre-k. I carried that mission in life with me and with Buddha’s blessing I will continue that journey.
