We caught up with the brilliant and insightful George “Lamont” Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
George “Lamont”, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
My first client came from a co-worker who I came to detail their vehicle on my day off and other people noticed me and it started to build from there. I was detailing out of my garage at my house before I started driving around in my car with all my equipment.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my detailing journey while working a 3rd job looking up up video’s on YouTube on detailing. While watching the videos I noticed I was doing a lot of those things while I was still in high school not knowing I was actually detailing my car and my parents lol. But moving to North Carolina I noticed a lot of people enjoyed riding around in a clean car. So I decided to make it into a business. My parents were entrepreneur so I figured I could do it also. Started detailing from my car with a pressure washer, buckets and a generator in my back seat. People saw my dedication and started telling friends and family. I was also working this while working a full time job. This started to get busier and busier
After time I got a van so I could have water instead of using other peoples water. I then hied my first employee. year after year we kept growing so I then brought another van, then less than a year later I was able to get my first shop. I added other services like Ceramic Coatings. So within the last 10 years I have grown the business from detailing out the back of my 2008 Charger to having three mobile units and a 3,000 sqft shop that we do Ceramic Coating, Window Tint and Paint Protection Film.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Staying connected with your clients and making sure you set expectations and exceed them. I make sure clients feel so thankful for the services they provide they become free promoters for us

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Making sure your team knows you are there for them and with them. I make sure I communicate with my team like they are family which they are to me. Making sure I’m showing them I’m a leader that will get down and dirty with them
