As the year winds down, I embark on a unique ritual within my filmmaking journey. Amidst the ceaseless hustle of my cinematic passion, I take a deliberate pause to delve into an edit—not the typical grind, mind you, but a labor of love for my new Show Reel. It’s an ironic breather, if you will, although it’s certainly not ‘work-work’—just ask my laughter, haha!

This peculiar practice stems from my realization that there are profound parallels between football and filmmaking, two seemingly disparate realms. Drawing inspiration from the strategic maneuvers in football, I’ve translated the essence of team-based planning into the meticulous pre-production phase of filmmaking. The game, in all its glory, aligns seamlessly with the execution of production. Just as football teams scrutinize past games for improvement, I find myself adopting a similar mindset, critically examining my own cinematic endeavors to fuel growth and evolution.

This cinematic journey has been propelled by an insatiable curiosity for the craft. As I plunge into the depths of my latest Show Reel, I can’t help but marvel at the considerable distance covered since those early days. Now, to the heart of the matter—the industry question at hand. Through my introspective reflections, I’ve unearthed a distinctive approach to storytelling, one shaped by a multifaceted curiosity.

Unlike many in the industry who specialize in a single role, I’ve embraced a holistic perspective. My curiosity spans not only the creative realms of storytelling and character development but extends deeply into the technical facets of production. Moreover, I’ve actively sought to gain hands-on experience in production management and logistics, recognizing the interconnectedness of these elements.

What baffles me within the industry is the prevalence of specialists content with mastering just one role. In my view, each facet of production—be it logistical, technical, or creative—operates akin to a football team. The more profound the knowledge within each unit about its counterparts, the more harmoniously they can collaborate. While I understand that some may view their roles as mere jobs for a paycheck, I find it perplexing when those in above-the-line positions or with a stake in the final product fail to embrace a comprehensive understanding of the entire craft.

For me, filmmaking is a holistic endeavor, an intricate tapestry where every thread contributes to the final masterpiece. Passion and curiosity drive my pursuit of mastery across the entire spectrum, and I hope to inspire others within the industry to adopt a similarly encompassing mindset. After all, it’s not just about mastering a single aspect; it’s about the symphony of elements working in harmony to create something truly extraordinary.

Unlike the typical trajectory of filmmakers who harbor dreams of an artistic career from a young age, my passion for the cinematic world unfolded in a rather unconventional manner during my time at San Diego State University. While pursuing a minor in Psychology, serendipity intervened, leading me to an unexpected role as an extra on the HBO Series, ‘John from Cincinnati.’ Fate smiled upon me once more, propelling me into a one-line speaking role that ignited a fervent realization—my destiny lay in film production.

Acknowledging that technical prowess is the linchpin for manifesting creative visions, I undertook a self-taught odyssey to comprehend every facet of filmmaking. From mastering the intricacies of camera work and lighting to delving into the realms of sound and post-production, I dedicated myself to building a comprehensive skill set.

What sets me apart in this industry is not only my technical expertise but also my innate ability to delve into the core of human truth.
