We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful George Haywood. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with George below.
George, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Well, my first name is George and I wanted to have a name based upon that but did not want to use George, so I came up with DJ-G (Although many times people will just say DJ George….LOL). I wanted to create a name that people could easily recognize and remember! Hence, DJ-G was born!
George, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been a working musician most of my life, in fact I played my first nightclub when I was 15 back in Rhode Island. I loved the night life, the music and the stage. A little over three years ago the band I was playing in suddenly disbanded three days before we were to play our local neighborhood’s Halloween Party and Chili Cook-Off. I contacted a friend of mine who is a DJ that I have worked with on several occasions and asked if he was available, unfortunately he was not, but he sent me some info on DJ Software and said, “put some music in your laptop, go setup some speakers and have fun!” So, that’s exactly what we did. We got through the event, everyone was quite amazed at how well things went and the rest is history. I knew when that night over I was going to be making a big change in my life. And, yes it has! I knew I did not want to go back into the club scene, so I did some research and found the mobile dj world which caters to events like weddings, corporate and private events, school events…etc. As a Mobile DJ, we are able to provide DJ/MC Services locally and through out the areas of North Carolina. DJ-G and DJG Music and Entertainment are able to offer to our clients a complete DJ / MC Service that includes; a personal online planner where our clients can create their perfect event! it has a complete music section that allows them the ability to select their music for their event and also offers a full accessible music library where they can search for that special song! We also offer many variations of lighting to enhance the mood of their event from subtle uplighting of a room to a complete night club lighting setup to give our clients that night club experience and feel! And if that wasn’t enough we are also able to provide a Digital Photobooth for our clients and their guests to enjoy.
One of the biggest things that I think that sets be apart, is the fact that I work from a home office and my phone is always with me. What that means to our clients is that they do not have to sit and wait for answers to their questions. I try to place myself in the clients position and wonder how I would feel if I had to wait to receive a response to a question, regardless of how trivial it may seem to some, a clients question is very important to them and I feel they deserve the respect to answer any questions as soon as possible!
I think the thing that I am most proud of is that what started as a small one-time event for some neighbors and friends has flourished into a growing Mobile DJ Service that is so very grateful to be able to provide the soundtrack and entertainment for a clients special event!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I can not say that just one area has been a single source for finding new clients. I advertise on several platforms. Two of the largest in the Wedding Industry are the Wedding Wire and The Knot, which I have been associated with for the last couple of years. But I also live by the philosophy of not putting all your eggs in one basket and so I am listed on Google, Thumbtack, Bark.com, Fash and Zola. Plus I utilize both Facebook and Instagram to attract new clients along with my own DJG Music and Entertainment Website. And let’s not forget word of mouth and past events that I have worked.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of what I do as a DJ, is the pure joy that I bring to a clients event! There are no words to express the moments that you have watching an event as the guests are enjoying the sounds that you are providing. The excitement of a new couple walking into a room filled with their family, friends and guests to the music and announcements that I am bringing is like nothing else on this earth. It just brings you to a completely different level!
