We caught up with the brilliant and insightful George “G Smoove” McDonald a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
George “G Smoove”, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I think I was in college! I wasn’t sure what I wanted to major in but I knew I loved music and movies. I had a conversation with my uncle who knew me very well. He told me to look into communications/ media/radio because I had such a love for music and the music business. I loved music videos as well so that was the original film connection. I did student radio and fell I. Love and then began interning at V-103 in Atlanta and that changed my life. I knew then for sure!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Well, I am a radio personality/filmmaker/songwriter and yes I do all professionally! Lol. I’m on K92.7 FM in Columbus GA. I co wrote and starred in a movie called “Entanglement “ which is available on Amazon Prime and Tubi. I just finished filming my parts for a movie coming out next year called “The life of me” written and directed by Ty Manns and produced by Manns/Mackie Studios and The Impact Network. It stars Brian White, Danielle Nicolet, and Brandon T. Jackson. I have a true love for entertainment as a whole so you may see me doing a number of things in the field. I discovered my really creative side late in life but when I did it opened me up to so many other possibilities. I actually wrote a few songs for the soundtrack of “The Life of Me” and I actually perform one of them in a scene in the film. I am also building a website, attackyourdestiny.net to sell merchandise related to things that make people feel good. Right now I am focusing on t shirts. Im a fan of 90s R&B so I have a line of shirts that say “90s R&B taught me how to love!” Things are growing for me and I plan on taking advantage of many opportunities.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for creatives is that we get to share ourselves with the world in a meaningful way. Writing songs or making movies leaves something in perpetuity for others to be inspired by for generations to come. You never know why you go through the things you do or how your expression of that experience will impact others. We all have that good to album when we are down or that movie that always has us in tears laughing. Once it out, it’s out and is a standing g reminder of your experience and perspective.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by the chance to express and get out what is inside. I head a saying that I have adopted. “Die empty!” I found a way to express all of the things that were inside that sometimes were heavy and impossible to carry through life. Creatively expressing this feelings through a song or script is almost a form of therapy and helps with my mental health exponentially.
