We recently connected with Geordian Abel and have shared our conversation below.
Geordian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The year 2020 was a rough one for a lot. Personally it was a year my world felt like it was crashing down on me, but my dreams were coming true all at the same time. I was working in corporate America, running my online blog, plus launched my online clothing brand, Flourish in Frills. It was a whirlwind working three jobs and quite literally grinding it out… until I got laid off from my corporate job out of literally no where in October. I had launched my dream business, Flourish in Frills, in August and had been wanting to take it full time because I knew in my soul if I could give it everything I had I could make it a reality. When The Lord opened that door by laying me off from my corporate job, I knew I had no choice but to take the risk and see if I could make both my businesses my full time jobs. That was almost two years ago and I have not looked back since. I truly do not think I would have ever quit corporate America on my own to go after my dreams. So even though it seemed like my world was falling a part and I was extremely embarrassed by getting laid off, looking back it was the best thing that could have ever happened.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I launched my blog, Adore More with Geor, my Junior year in college as a project for one of my classes at Texas A&M University. This was 7 years ago and was right when blogging was becoming a “thing.” I have always loved all things fashion so this was a creative outlet for me to share my outfit ideas with an audience. Since then, I have worked with countless brands like Tula, MacKenzie-Childs, Jared, Tiff’s Treats, Marc Fisher and more. My blog is still a creative outlet, but has shifted from just fashion over the years as I got married, bought my first home, started a new online business and more. I try to be authentic as possible with my audience by sharing the good, the bad and the ugly about all things life.
Post college I worked in corporate America in advertising sales. While I loved what I did, specifically building relationships with my clients, it never fulfilled me and I knew I always wanted to pursue something on my own. Owning an online clothing brand had always been a dream which is where Flourish in Frills came into play August 2020. Flourish in Frills is an online clothing brand that loves to build relationships with our customers and getting to see them flourish in their chic, feminine and girly outfits along the way.
I have taken the foundational skills I learned in my corporate sales job and have learned how to imply them to both of my online businesses. It will be two years October 2022 of being self employed and I truly would not have it any other way.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Consistency is KEY and slow and steady sometimes wins the race. I have had my blog’s Instagram for 7 years and am still only at 30k followers. While this sometimes stings, I have learned how important it is to not focus on the numbers but focus on building relationships with the audience that is there. With my online clothing brands Instagram I have seen that consistency is truly key as I have grown that Instagram from scratch over the past two years solely by being consistent.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Serving my audience by building relationships with them in an online way. Consistency. Providing unique clothing options that not every other boutique has.
