We recently connected with GEOFFREY GORMAN and have shared our conversation below.
Hi GEOFFREY, thanks for joining us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I have been a full time artist for the last twenty years. Before that I worked in the arts as a gallery dealer, arts writer, curator and advisor on the business of art for artists. Having that background and experiece in the art world gave me invaluable insights and connections into the workings of being a professional artist. It helped me jump-start my sculpture practice once I started making work full-time.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My journey in the art world spans several decades, beginning long before I became a full-time artist. Initially, I worked as a gallery dealer, arts writer, curator, and advisor on the business of art for artists. These roles provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the art industry’s inner workings, from the creation and curation of art to the business strategies that sustain artistic careers.
Twenty years ago, I made the transition to becoming a full-time artist, focusing on my passion for sculpture. The knowledge and experience I gained from my previous roles were instrumental in jump-starting my practice. They equipped me with the skills to navigate the art market, connect with the right people, and understand the practical aspects of sustaining an artistic career.
As a sculptor, my work is deeply influenced by my experiences and observations from my time in the Galapagos Islands and the Ecuadorian Amazon., along with other travels around the world. These travels have inspired much of my recent work, which often explores themes of nature, transformation, and the interplay between the organic and the constructed.
My primary medium is wood and found objects, where I create pieces that range from small, intricate works to large-scale installations. I take on commissioned projects, collaborating with clients to bring their visions to life through custom sculptures. I also teach, sharing my knowledge and experience with emerging artists and art enthusiasts through educational sessions.

Avoid overloading your posts with too many hashtags; focus on a few that are most relevant.
Partner with other artists, brands, or influencers to reach new audiences. Participate in community events, online challenges, and collaborations and maintain a regular posting schedule to keep your audience engaged. Consistency helps build anticipation and reliability.
Each social media platform has its strengths. Tailor your content to suit the unique features and audience of each platform. Pay attention to your analytics to understand what works and what doesn’t. Adapt your strategy based on your findings to continuously improve your engagement and reach

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
There is a deeply rooted mission driving my creative journey, which centers on the exploration and expression of themes related to nature, transformation, and the human experience.
Here are the key elements of this mission: the driving force behind my creative journey is a blend of personal passion, a desire to connect with and inspire others, and a commitment to using art as a tool for positive change. By staying true to this mission, I hope to continue creating work that resonates deeply with viewers and contributes to a more thoughtful, connected, and sustainable world.
I believe art has the power to inspire transformation—both personal and societal. My sculptures often explore the themes of change and evolution, reflecting the continuous process of growth and adaptation that characterizes both natural and human life. By engaging with my work, I hope viewers will reflect on their own journeys and embrace the potential for positive change.
