We were lucky to catch up with Gennifer Rose recently and have shared our conversation below.
Gennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
My husband and I work as a team to build and contribute to our California travel and lifestyle blog. We’ve been busy doing photography and creating detailed travel guides for our brand for over 7 years now. We’ve seen great success with well over 10,000 readers a month using our content to plan and inspire their own vacations.
We had a long chat the other day about what it takes to be successful in our respective field of content creation, and the answer was very simple. You must create quality and consistent content over a long period of time. Now, this may be a simple statement but the reality is that it’s tough to keep up the momentum and motivation with all the obstacles life throws at you. Pushing through the times when you’re not feeling as inspired and creative is truly the key to being a successful and financially lucrative content creator.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always loved to travel, particularly roadtripping around our home state of California. My husband and I started out taking trips with just our Black Labrador Holly. In preparation for our trips I am always doing a ton research on our destinations. We also love using our DSLR cameras to capture memorable travel moments and unique places. We have since grown into a much bigger family with two kids and our dog. I use all my gathered information and photos to build California destination travel guides to share with all those other families who also have the wanderlust bug.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Having children is always a dramatic life changing event, it touches every part of your life. When we first became parents, it felt a bit daunting to travel again. All of a sudden we had to follow baby-friendly schedules, we needed so much more gear and we were limited on the types of activities we could do. But a few months into parenthood I realized that these challenges presented great opportunities to create content particularly tailored to new parents. We now have dozens of baby and toddler-friendly travel guides to help other new parents on their adventures.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
It took me several years before I felt open to working with other writers on my blog. I had concerns that guest posts from other contributors would have a negative impact on my brand voice. But once I let go of my trepidation, I discovered that I can cover so much more ground and produce quality content at a much higher rate when I allow others to use my platform to tell their stories.
