We recently connected with Genevieve Godwin and have shared our conversation below.
Genevieve, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
This has always been a life long calling. Since I was a child I knew that I was supposed to help people and be a light in this world. I could just tell the way the majority of people were living was not how life is supposed to be. Sometimes I felt like I was living in a backwards world. I didn’t understand why we were so disconnected from nature and our spirit. This made me very drawn to the mystical side of life. I spent my time after school studying and learning all I could about metaphysics and spirituality.
I decided to make it my mission back in 2017, when I was going to school and was one semester away from university. I really thought about if I wanted to go into debt to do something that doesn’t provide me with any sense of fulfillment. The answer was no, so I listened to myself and dropped out without a plan.
That was the best decision I ever made. 6 months later, after following my joy in every moment. I noticed that spirituality, energy work, and ancient practices have been a consistent calling. It is how I spend my free time. It allowed me freedom out of the 9-5 rat race, plus helping people in that way would be truly fulfilling to me. So I went for it. I learned from so many amazing teachers and The Genie In U was born in 2019. With the goal of giving people the loving support and tools for empowerment, healing, and success.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In my opinion, life is saturated with people telling someone else how to live their life. We see this everywhere, from fitness, religion, finance, business, spirituality, art, everywhere. There is always someone else telling you how to live your life. What the “right way” is. What formula to use. Do this not that. No one knows how to trust themself. People are constantly bombarded with information, rules, limitations, and are lacking heartfelt support.
So my main goal is to give my community the support and tools to come back to their inner divine wisdom. Sure I can share my expertise, but my main goal is to uplift them and get them thinking and feeling like a badass. That they can do, be, and have anything they want. And to see themselves as royalty and so valuable.
And I like to do this in many ways. I see my business as a sacred temple. Holding the energy of unconditional love, joy, pleasure, mysticism, and self-worth.
This is not just a way to make money, everything I offer is done with pure intention and prayer. Whether it is energy healing sessions, herbal hair scalp washes, devotional self-care products, group ceremonies, or manifestation coaching.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Referrals.
My best skill is relationship building. Giving everyone their time to be seen, loved, heard, and validated. I see my clients as beautiful people that trusted me on their journey so I provide the most authentic human moments with them as possible. Then they tell other people, and the community keeps growing.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
That just because someone wrote a book, did a Ted Talk, got interviewed by Joe Rogan, or is super successful, doesn’t mean their formula will work for me.
I am deeply invested in my own success and I do like to learn from other people. However, I had to detach myself from taking someone else’s word over my own intuition.
I am the type of person who if you tell me someone will change my life, you bet I am doing it disciplined every day until it happens. I’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars on coaching, mentorship, courses, etc.
But these methods or practices would not feel good for me. Not like they were bad practices, but just not for me or what I needed at that time.
So seriously giving myself permission to trust myself, regardless of someone else’s expertise. And every time I listen to myself I gain success. Don’t get me wrong I love learning from people, but I think you have to come about it with a mentality that these people are just people. And we can brainstorm together but there is no hierarchy of power.
