We were lucky to catch up with Genevieve Godlesky recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Genevieve thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
So, I started dance at the age of 2 yrs old and immediately fell in love with it. I was put into dance by my mom and ever since I was in her stomach, every time I heard music, I would dance. My first years of dance, I was just dancing recreationally but when I turned 7 yrs old and started seeing broadway shows and movies with dancers, I realized that that is what I wanted to do. To do what I love, dance, as a career was exactly what I wanted.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Genevieve Godlesky. I am 15 yrs old. I am a dancer & performing artist based in New York City. I got into dance at the age of 2, and started dancing professionally at 15. I immediately fell in love with dance ever since I was born. It has always been a passion of mine. I train in dance at Broadway Dance Center in New York City, and has been performing in BDC’s prestigious A.I.M Company for the past 4 years. I am currently in rehearsals for the National Tour of Hits! The Musical, which is touring around the U.S in 2023. Mindfulness and affirmative positivity are very important to me. I spend time writing in her gratitude journal daily, and I’m a member of the Youth Ambassadors with We Are Queens. My mom introduced me to a gratitude journal at the age of 6 and ever since then I have been writing in one. I believe that it improves every situation and makes the day even better when you take 5 minutes to reflect on the incredible things that has happened to you. My mom, dad and sister are my biggest inspirations in life because every day they motivate me to work even harder, to not give up and always remind me that everyone has their own path.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Personally, I think the most rewarding part about being an artist is when you’re performing on stage for an audience and you just get to make people smile. With all the music and dancing, it is so rewarding when you’re performance can actually touch people and make them feel something.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to be able to do everything that you can do as dancer with keeping a positive mindset. Sometimes in the dance world you can be put into a box either musical theatre or commercial. I want to do it all, and still maintain a positive mindset. It can get hard sometimes blocking out the outside noise but you have to continue to trust in yourself and remember that everything happens for a reason.
