We recently connected with Gene Barron and have shared our conversation below.
Gene, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Tho I began my professional career as a artist in my later years art has always been my passion Since my teens I use to make flyers for local bands , tried to start a comic book , wrote poems and spoken word you name it but I feel that all those various types of things lead me to where I am now and the type of art I feel most passionate about
Without all those influences and searching I feel I would have missed out on the unique journey and development in my work

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We’ll my name is Gene Barron and I’ve been a established abstract contemporary artist for going on 20 years . Being a full time artist I must say takes a lot of learning how to navigate the art world , learning to engage w galleries , interior designers and collectors ect
You know all those things we tend to shy away from as artist
Yet at the same time I think it’s vital to be true to yourself and your work and to keep in mind that the reason you became a artist was a need to convey something w the world
There is a way to keep your art sacred and be business minded
But that’s something that you continue to learn though out your career
I’m grateful w the progress, recognition and accomplishment s I’ve made so far , I’ve worked w some amazing galleries, won awards and have many collectors locally , nationally and internationally
But I feel there is still higher levels I want to achieve both w my label and in my work and am very much committed to reaching them . I feel as artist we never stop working even when we are not painting we are observing, watching listening and soaking in everything around us and take all those things in the studio or professional life w us .

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To me the most rewarding aspect of being a artist is simply being able to share my work with people, my work comes from my experiences , imagination and is very personal And being that abstraction is very subjective to each viewer I love to hear how they personally perceive and experience it
There elements of the work that can pull the viewer towards a more subconscious interpretation that they relate to each viewer personally
Yet there’s a certain collective feeling that is shared within it as well

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Living a life as a creative can lol very different from other careers and yes while that can be hard it’s also beautiful , It took me personally awhile to learn to be confident enough to vulnerable, unapologetic and believe in my craft enough to stick to your guns and say this is what I do And I love it !
It’s so easy to get lost in creating only what sells, what your know for , sticking only to a signature style , I personally tend to jump around a lot in my approach and subject matter but after time
People have come to usually recognize my work .
Sales can also be challenging
I use to offer a discount even before asked lol
You have to see the value in what you do . I still struggle w getting my prices where I want
But as for now my response is this my price and if anything my prices will only increase w time so this is a great opportunity to purchase.
People can see art and artist as not a real job or a luxury and so forth but but are surrounded by it constantly in many different way it’s definitely a vital part of life
So important to know yr bringing some unique and valuable to the table and have yr label reflect that
