Gena , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?

A few years back, I was a store manager in a sales environment – a job that’s no stranger to long hours, demanding customers, managing people, and building rapport, to say the least. But little did I know that job would put the finishing touches on what I needed to become a successful business consultant. I learned multiple lessons during those times but two that stuck with me the most are:

1) The art of giving 150% every single day. NO shortcuts, NO half steps -It was all about squeezing out my full potential.
2) You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Opportunities don’t wait around for you, you have to grab them!

Fast Forward to today, and I’ve made the leap from store manager to full time businesswoman. Did those lessons play a role in my success? Most Definitely..They gave me the confidence to level up and take calculated risks.

I am Gena James, owner of Elevated by Gena James, a business consultant agency. I have always been enthusiastic about business, or as others would describe it, business minded. In fact, I was consulting long before I officially became a consultant, helping people around me with strategies to effectively achieve results. I assisted the companies I worked for in creating inventory processes to better organize their inventory and pass audits. I even contributed to transforming unprofitable locations into profitable ones. My results and love for the developing the strategizes I put in place led me to conduct further research on how to turn my undeniable passion into a business and monetize my talents.

At Elevated By Gena James, we assist entrepreneurs in achieving their goals through innovative management, marketing, and sales strategies. What I am most proud of is being able to harness my creativity and knowledge to help others accomplish what they may have initally considered unrealistic goals , turning them into achievable milestones. We have successfully aided our clients in building million dollar businesses, products, and brands.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

A little over two years ago, my family and I relocated to North Carolina due to my husband’s military service. We left our home town of New Orleans where I was born and raised. I was undoubtedly nervous because I didn’t know anyone, but I was determined to network and connect with like minded individuals in the area. I joined facebook groups, introduced myself, visited local businesses to patronize and make introductions, and asked questions about the business opportunitites in the area. One of the main things that caught my attention was the networking potential.

So I decided to take action. I organized my first event called, “Coming to Fayetteville” partnering with local businesses to shine a light on them and create a safe space for networking. This year we hosted our second event with the same goal in mind, the Summer Soirée Business Mixer. Despite being new to the area, I successfully pivoted, met new people and built lasting business and personal relationships.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

These are a few of my favorite books that have significantly impacted my journey: Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki is a must-read for any aspiring entrepreneur. Jeff Walker’s Launch provides readers with the blueprint for successful product launches, while Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit reveals how habits shape our lives and equip us with powerful tools to break bad ones.
