We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gemma Downes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gemma below.
Gemma, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Music Of The Future was an idea that kind of fell in my lap but with a lot of hard work with it. I found that independent music artist across the globe were finding it difficult to get PR because of pricing so I worked with an artist not far from me named Jessica Bell then it went on where I helped a band then decided I wanted to create something where bands and artist could share their music using a platform for an Interview, review or one of of other features we other and continuously create new ones to stand out all for free. 8 Years in and its still going we have new bands/artist submitting daily from all over the world and giving us great feedback but also have returnees who are welcomed for another feature potentially yet still free of charge.

Gemma, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into Music by promoting an artist close to me and then grew from there. Music Of The Future is also known as MusicOTFuture and MOTF as we have many other features that we use those abbreviations for. Music for me is a safe space that creates different worlds and ideas flow for different things.
Music Of The Futures FREE SERVICES include Interviews, Reviews, Features on our MusicOTFuture Global TV Youtube and MOTFtakeover opportunities. Music Of The Future Gigs Around The Globe is also another feature to promote your bands live events for free on our social media. I’m most proud of being nominated for many awards for my blog and show casing bands and artists who wouldn’t usually get the recognition and them finally getting the recognition they deserve. I wan’t followers and fans and potential future clients to know that they can approach my brand with no hesitation of the dreaded feeling of thinking they will be straight up rejected and be able to ask if they want feedback or why they won’t be featured and thinking that I come with a hefty price tag like the usual promotion blogs.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A tough lesson I had to learn especially in the music industry was definitely being a woman in the industry and being young. Being 14 starting out was and having to stand my ground a bit and having to fight for a place to be where I am today.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Definitely when COVID19 hit both my career and life took a pivot, I had to completely change everything as the world shut down and the music industry took a complete spin especially the live side especially big events and travel. I went from doing live events and travelling to a complete stand still and took a complete u turn and went into a second job working from home.
