Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gegham Abrahamyan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gegham, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Had I chosen a different profession instead of being an artist, I have frequently reflected on this, often looking to the skywards and bowing in gratitude for my grace.
While art is often created in the solitude of a silent studio, I believe its true fulfillment comes from engaging with and resonating within the hearts of people. If there are no people, the vital interaction between art and the audience is absent; art loses its profound purpose and mission.
Everyone faces diverse challenges in life, and though I’m unsure how each person overcomes them, I believe that without being an artist, I might not have persevered. Art has been my lifeline, keeping me afloat through these trials. Perhaps this is why I was destined for this path.
I wonder how those not engaged in art navigate life’s tumultuous waves. Yet, in every situation, a light of hope emerges, offering kindness and grace, reaching individuals regardless of their professional pursuits.
Gegham, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Armenian by nationality and have been residing in Seattle, Washington with my wife and son for more than 7 years. The natural beauty of this evergreen state is remarkable, and I cherish my connection to it.
Ever since I was young, sculpture has captured my heart and imagination in profound ways. At the age of 12, I found myself immersed in the world of creativity, sketching and molding small sculptures. My parents, keenly aware of my artistic inclinations, took a remarkable step and enrolled me in a sculpture classes. This decision not only validated my passion but also became a transformative experience in my life.
I am deeply grateful for their insight and support, as well as the divine grace that guided my journey into the arts.
Sculpture is not just my profession; Art has been the sole means for me to navigate, understand, and embrace all the phases of my past and present life. It serves as a gateway to delve into a luminous spiritual realm, becoming my cornerstone of support throughout my journey.
Exhibiting my work across the globe, from Europe to North America, has been an incredible journey. It’s heartening to see diverse audiences connect with my art, resonating with the authenticity I strive to embody.
My sculptures are highly valued by art critics and art professionals, and are included in private collections. I have sculptures that are permanently displayed in public spaces.
Nowadays I am working on my new sculpture series, a vision I have nurtured for years, and now on the brink of becoming a reality. In the near future, this series of modern human-sized sculptures, accompanied with wall art, will be ready for the public.
In a world where nearly every creation is crafted with the intention of commerce, art stands out as a rare exception. It is one of the few realms, if not the only one, where the primary purpose transcends mere sales. Art embodies expression, emotion, and a shared human experience, inviting us to connect with ourselves and each other in profound ways. This intrinsic value elevates art beyond a transactional medium, reminding us of its unique place in our culture and society.
However, its true power lies beyond that. I believe the true impact of art is its ability to nurture a person’s conscious spirit, illuminating their path with insight and understanding.
My art regardless of the subject, regardless of the thoughts arising from my experiences, should be preach the good that leads to the light, regardless of the professional skill and talent, if the it is not there, it is not absolute for me.
Indeed, art is created beyond mere commercial calculations. However, fortunate are those artists whose works are appreciated by people and acquired by art collectors, galleries and museums.
In this regard, I consider myself fortunate.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The most valuable support society can offer artists is an appreciation and understanding of art, which necessitates comprehensive education in the arts and the cultivation of an environment that encourages artistic expression.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I envision a grand sculpture park where remarkable artworks of various sizes are displayed. This park will include art galleries offering an array of film screenings, artist panel discussions, masterclasses, and numerous professional exhibitions. Serving as a vibrant art hub, it will aim to engage the community, emanating a powerful light that provides strength, hope, and inspiration to advance in life, while nurturing deep thought and creativity.
My wife and I have thoughtfully planned and developed the architectural solutions for this ambitious project. Once completed, it will stand out distinctly from existing sculpture parks.
