Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gbeke Omosebi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Gbeke thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a mom of two kids, motherhood has been the most fulfilling journey of my life. However, I also understand the challenges and struggles that come with it. When I first became a mom, I felt like I was navigating motherhood independently and wished I was part of a community of moms to listen and learn from experiences and stories. That’s when the pivotal idea for Simplicity for Designs came to my mind. I wanted to create a platform that could support moms like me through every stage of motherhood and provide them with a community to share their experiences, ask questions, and find answers.
Through Simplicity for Designs, we are on a mission to be an online community and platform that supports moms and their families. We want to empower moms to navigate motherhood challenges with family life and prioritize their well-being. Our mission is meaningful to me because I believe that no mom should feel alone in their journey of motherhood. By providing them with a safe and supportive community, we can help them feel seen, heard, and valued.
Moreover, the joy of seeing other moms benefit from Simplicity for Designs by sharing their experiences, learning from each other, and feeling empowered to keep going in their journey as moms is priceless. So, our mission is not just about creating a platform; it’s about making a meaningful difference in the lives of moms and their families.

Gbeke, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a wife and mother of two, and I have a background as an IT developer. I started creating content as side hustle, sharing home styling and home improvement tips and ideas with my followers. As a content creator I’ve been fortunate enough to work with brands like Walmart, Michaels, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Home Depot, as well as being featured in publications like Rue Magazine, Apartment Therapy, and Reclaim Magazine.
My journey into content creation began as a personal passion when my husband and I bought our first home. It was a builder-grade house, and I wanted to add some upgrades to give it our personal touch. So in 2018, I bought some woodworking tools, watch some tutorials on YouTube and started with framing the windows in our home to give each room character. I shared these home projects on Instagram and my blog, and that’s how I got my start as a content creator.
In 2019, I faced a health scare with lupus, and I had to take a break from home projects and focus on my health. During this time, I knew I had to stop doing our home projects but this situation also enable me to slow down, prioritize my well-being and reflect on the everyday challenges I was experiencing as a mom of two little kids. This is what lead to me making a pivot in my business, Simplicity for Designs. I decided that Simplicity for Designs will be a community and platform to support moms and their families. Our foundation work is to provide a space for moms to empower, share their experiences, ask questions, and find answers. We cover topics from motherhood, parenting, self-care to wellness, and aim to make our community of moms feel seen, heard, and valued because raising a home is not a personal journey but a collective journey.
What sets me apart from others in my industry is my unique origin and upbringing. I’m a Nigerian, and my culture is an integral part of my dedication, resilience, and motivation toward achieving my life goals. It’s also what defines me as a daughter, sister, wife, mom, aunt, friend, and business owner. Growing up, I had the privilege of traveling the world with my family due to my dad’s occupation. This experience allowed me to learn about other cultures and meet people who have influenced me in different ways.
Moreover, as a black mom living with an autoimmune disease, I’ve been inspired to create a community that supports moms and their families. I’m most proud of the community we’ve built at Simplicity for Designs and the impact we’ve had on the lives of moms. Our mission is to provide a safe and supportive space for moms to connect and grow together, and that we’re committed to empowering and uplifting women in all stages of life.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Deciding to leave my career as an IT developer and go fully into entrepreneurship was definitely a scary experience, but it was also a necessary pivot for me. I knew deep within me that my purpose lay in building businesses and creating an impact. The motivation behind this pivot was my mother, who has been an entrepreneur since I was born. Watching her build multiple businesses and also being able to nurture her family was always a desire of mine.
While I was working as an IT developer, I started a side hustle as a content creator and later pivoted to build a community and platform for moms and their families through Simplicity for Designs. This business in enabled me to focus on the needs of my family, and the time I get to spend with my kids has been priceless. It has been a challenging journey, but the continuous support from my husband, family, and friends has been my driving force.
I’m inspired by the legacy I get to build for my family and being able to serve others. Entrepreneurship has not been easy, but I’m filled with the joy of making an impact in the lives of mothers and their families across the globe. This pivot has been a defining moment in my life and has taught me that taking risks and pursuing your passions can lead to a fulfilling and rewarding career.
