The Backpackster’s mission is to empower individuals, especially those without a car, to earn money by walking with our innovative backpack advertising system. We often find ourselves facing adversity that is disguised as opportunity, and that’s exactly how The Backpackster came to be. My name is Gastón Corbala, and I’m a father, concept developer, entrepreneur, chef, and tech enthusiast from San Diego, California.
I’ve been described as a sharpshooter, innovator, and artist, but at my core, I’m simply a person constantly seeking opportunities to create positive change in the lives of others. Currently, I’m immersed in the ad tech industry, focusing on expanding an advertising medium that redefines how advertisers connect with their audiences. Our mission is to empower people across America to earn an income just by walking while providing advertisers with deep, transparent data analytics that surpass any other medium available.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My devotion to The Backpackster stems from a deep determination to make a real difference in the world. By living off the gig economy, I’ve embraced the freedom to manage my time, directing it toward this venture. But my purpose goes beyond financial independence, it’s about fulfilling a calling. The Backpackster is a crucial step toward my ultimate vision: developing “The Garden of Peace” with my mentor, Lama Lhanang Rinpoche. This project is my true calling, dedicated to conserving one of the oldest philosophies on Earth and making a lasting positive impact on people’s lives.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
From the restaurant industry to the tech industry, my journey took an unexpected turn. During the lockdown blues, I was deeply involved in a ghost kitchen project we founded in October 2020, with the mission of engaging people’s palates through technology. As the world began returning to normal, I started searching for ways to advertise our product on the streets and gain insights into the impact of our campaigns. When I couldn’t find anything that met my needs, I decided to create it myself. And that’s how The Backpackster was born.
