We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gary O’Brien . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gary below.
Hi Gary, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My story, is the equivalent of most entrepreneurs. It starts with a passion, then becomes an obsession.
O’Brien “BIG CITY” BBQ, was formed years before I started it. It was born with me witnessing and watching my grandfather cook for the church, with me watching my father grill on the weekends and manifested into me ultimately taking the leap to pursue my dream.
I literally love everything about bbq. The prep, the smell, the time I have to reflect while I’m cooking.

Gary, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
O’Brien’s “BIG CITY” BBQ, is a mobile food unit, operating out of Pearland, Tx that services the Houston, metroplex.
Gary O’Brien, owner and operator, took his Louisiana heritage and combined it with traditional Texas BBQ to deliver some of the best pit smoked meats daily. With his signature dishes of smoked ribs, brisket and the world famous “BIG CITY”, wings.
With a client list that entails the likes of Marc Cuban “Heroes Foundation “, Walmart, Amazon. To providing Hurricane Relief to victims of Hurricane Ida.
Our Mantra is: O’Brien’s “BIG CITY” BBQ, where our last name, comes first.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The one question I get asked often, is, Who’s in charge of your social media? It’s something I take complete pride in. My method for building and engaging with my followers and potential followers is simple.
To be authentic in my approach and to never make it about, myself. The food takes precedence above all.
So, in, building my brand as well as my following that’s my first step. It’s a combination of being authentic, being engaging and of course the food must look the part.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The one story that always comes to me and is a true reminder of my resilience is. We were asked to provide relief aid to the Hurricane victims in Houma, Louisiana in 2021.
We provided over 1,000 meals in a span of (2) days, which included around the clock cooking on the smoker, but the joy on the victims faces upon receiving a simple hot meal, was my revelation. It was in that moment, I truly “found my why”.
