Gary, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Our mission is to serve the community, connecting our customers to what our local producers have to offer, and to serve tasty foods that elicit memories.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve been cooking since I was a little kid hanging next to the stove in our family kitchen. Working with food just came natural. First job was a dishwasher in a small restaurant and I never looked back. In my senior year of high school I took culinary arts at a vocational school and after graduation went on to culinary school in Pittsburgh at Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts. When I returned to Cincinnati I cooked at some of the finest restaurants in town and worked on my private chef career. During this time I was working out a concept that eventually evolved in to The Pickled Pig where we are today.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Our business model relies on local farmers and producer. We buy from them and they in turn sell our products in their farm stores and through csa programs. Working locally was critical during the pandemic when all national supply chains were failing. Unknowingly we were setting us up to survive during this time.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partner is my life partner as well. We met working in a restaurant and later reconnected and got married. Our business reflects our love of great food and communing with our neighbors.
