Gary, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
As a touring indie musician I learned the art of marketing and promotion. Little did I know at the time that these skills getting my band booked and promoted would be the same skills needed to promote our Apps with Future Moments.
Gary, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started off as a musician, songwriter and recording engineer with my band Setting Sun. All the skills and knowledge I learned about audio, whether it pertained to music, video, or podcasts would guide me in bringing that knowledge to content creators in mobile and desktop app form. I knew my knowledge and skill could help people improve their productions. I then worked with an excellent coder to create all the Apps (Apple & Android) we offer with Future Moments.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think most musicians that do their own booking, especially touring in the USA, can tell you how hard it is. Most emails don’t get returned so you don’t know if they were even read. Most responses go silent. You can’t get hung up on that and you can’t let it slow you down or stunt your motivation.
When looking for a partner in Future Moments, I emailed between 150-200 developers who could possibly bring my ideas to life. Only 3 wrote me back. It was discouraging for sure, but luckily I was used to that kind of rejection from booking tours and promoting music.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
I’d say the main goal that drives me is how i can be of help to others. That’s always been the best feedback, whether it’s been as a musician or an App developer.
As a musician, the best feedback I got was when someone told me one of my songs got him through a really hard time in life. He would play a certain Setting Sun song in his car and just drive. He did this several times a day and it got him through his heartbreak. He now hates that song, but that’s another story….
With app developing, I love how our apps help musicians and podcasters who record with MicSwap and master their audio with AudioMaster (2 of our Apps).
I love when I hear from a user that it really helped them with the technical side of things so they can stay focused on the creative side.
