We were lucky to catch up with Gary Hensel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Gary, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I started on social media to support my writing. It has grown organically to over 150,000 followers from all over the world. Each day I post quotes of wisdom from people throughout history, as well as from my books. I have people from all over the world commenting and asking me questions. It has become as large and as important as my writing.

Gary, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My life has been one of extreme highs and lows. It is from these hard lessons that I have grown spiritually and hopefully gained some wisdom. I spent 20 years as a tenured college professor and served as a department chair. At my core I am a teacher. So my writing, social media and master classes are about sharing what I have learned from life.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Well as I have mentioned my social media grew organically. I would recommend working that way and stay away from gimmicks etc. Decide what is the purpose of your site? What are you trying to accomplish? Find your voice, just as with writing. I always try to keep it positive. I never argue with people or even engage any negative comments. I never talk politics, that is not what my site is about. There are so many positive people all over the world who are doing wonderful things. Put out that kind of energy and you will find each other.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One of my books is titled “Notes To A Younger Me”. I wish I could sit down with the 5 year old me, the 10 year old me and the 15 year old me. Talk to this boy about all I have learned. That concept is the core of my teaching and books. Sharing wisdom with all who are ready to hear it.
