Garth, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
When I first began offering Sound Ceremonies, which I didn’t call them that back then, I offered them for free out of my home. I would invite people, friends mostly, to come have an experience and give me feedback about how it made them feel during and afterwards. In the beginning, I had no expectations of this turning into a full time practice. After a while, people began insisting that they pay to come have the experience. I could see how it was truly helping folks relax away from their stress and find the deeper parts of themselves which, when activated, can turn of the body’s natural ability to heal itself. From there, I began to focus my time and energy on developing this modality into a more accessible process for people that were interested. Today, I still offer the private Ceremonies, but I also offer group Ceremonies at yoga studios, dance halls, community centers, and private venues to keep them affordable and accessible for everyone.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve been a musician for 25 years, playing shows and releasing albums, both solo and with bands. Beyond my personal relationship with music, I began to notice how attached it was to people’s emotions and state of mind. How music could take people from a bad mood to a good mood, with something as simple as singing a few lines to a song they loved. This led me to wanting to dive deeper into what Sound and Vibration had to offer. I’ve arrived at combining Sound with a Ceremonial container to potentiate both.
Sound
Even before verbal language, humans have used sound and song for healing, communicating and creating community. Bone flutes have been discovered that date back to 45,000 BC; the ancient Greeks used zithers and harps to calm & entertain. While the ancient practitioners may not have languaged the concepts of brain wave entrainment or the parasympathetic nervous system, they knew that Sound, used in deliberate and intentional ways, could calm a person to the point that their innate ability to self-heal activates.
Ceremony
Like shared song & intentional sound, the practice of creating and participating in Ceremony dates back 10’s of thousands of years; it is a basic human instinct. We are social creatures; gathering together for moments of silence and reverence is at the very core of being human in relationship to others (both human and other than human). Ceremony reflects our beliefs, hopes, traditions, culture, and spirituality while creating a container for belonging and amplifying our intentions.
I humbly offer Sound Ceremony. A modality that combines the two for a deep and meaningful experience. Guided by Instruments from around the world, each person that is present co-creates the special container that we all use as a collective pathway into our deeper selves and our collective healing.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I operate almost entirely by word of mouth. Testimonials from people that have experienced my workshops has been the number one way I have grown my practice. As with any modality that deals with deeper aspects of ourselves, the real work is in the integration and aftercare. For anyone that has sat with me, I am available to process with them at any time moving forward. Even if someone doesn’t use this service, knowing that it’s an option can allow them to drop deeper into the experience. Almost like a kind of energetic insurance.
I think being thorough and providing a product that keeps people coming back can be applied by any business hoping to be successful.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
In the field of Sound Healing and Vibrational Medicine, the most helpful thing practitioners can be is open hearted. In the Corporate world, this may be debatable. When you are bringing people into some of the deeper places of themselves, it seems paramount to lead with an open heart. Have empathy. Be patient. Allow the people called to the work the space to be truly vulnerable. That will result in the type of reputation you are looking to cultivate.
