We recently connected with Garry O’Neal, Jr. and have shared our conversation below.
Garry, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share an anecdote or story from your schooling/training that you feel illustrates what the overall experience was like?
While anyone can profess to be a Coach, for the most part, you’d want a coach who has had training/education in human behavior and counseling. I attended a Life Coach training by a Professional Life Coach, and it was really amazing! Learning the intricacies of what it means to be a Life Coach, how sessions go, and even the business aspect was great. The biggest eye opener, was how much was centered around us individually; our goals, our beliefs (positive and negative),, and the work that we internally had to put in before we became coaches.
I always tell people that go through my coaching program–
you are your first client”, and that you see that in glimpses of your clients in your sessions.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always been a person that people have come to for support, counseling, advice, ect. My job held an annual leadership development program, and I was fortunate enough to get in. The program had a variety of speakers, and one of them was a Certified Life Coach, and the rest was history–I started working on becoming a Life Coach, and graduated from a Life Coaching program. I offer Life Coaching in areas of goal-setting, overcoming fear, motivation, Business Coaching, and Consulting. I help them typically solve the biggest question they typically have, which is “Can you help me start?”.
What sets me apart is my willingness to look at the broader picture, but also the necessary smaller details. Having a very optimistic mindset, and creating a supportive, safe space for growth and change. What makes me most proud is seeing my clients start achieving their heartfelt desires and goals,
The biggest thing I want everyone to know is that, YOU REALLY CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT–it really is just a matter of envisioning it, creating a strategy, and executing–seeing, planning, and doing!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think the biggest thing to building my reputation as a Coach has always been being consistent; consistent in the messages I am putting out there in refreshing, unique ways, and providing resources, and ensuring people know what I offer. Client referrals, and testimonials are always been a great way to establish who I am as a Coach in this industry.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Information. Influence. Income. Those are the 3 things that you need to growing your clientele. We live in such a media driven world, that offering information—the “how to’s”, “effective strategies”, and other tips creates a sense that you are a valuable source of information. Once you have established that, you generally have created influence with potential clients, who then, will buy your services, your books, and go to your events.
