We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Garry Leavy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Garry, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Has Covid resulted in any major changes to your business model?
Let’s Go Trivia is a live in person trivia event company based in NY. We host trivia events in bars, breweries and restaurants and privately for corporations, individuals and fundraisers.
When all the restaurants were forced to close in March 2020, we began hosting trivia online for individuals and for corporations who could connect their employees, who were located everywhere, via fun game of trivia.
Before the lockdown, players used pen and paper to answer the questions. During the lockdown we switched to digital and have remained on a digital platform since we returned hosting in person and it has been a huge success.
We have grown out private trivia events from 5 to 10 events per year pre-2020, to 50 per year.

Garry, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Garry Leavy is a native of Ireland who has lived in the United States for 23 years. He is the founder of Let’s Go Trivia.
Having hosted trivia on a casual basis for over 20 years as a bartender, Leavy made the leap to self employment in 2017 and hasn’t looked back.
Initially offering trivia in bars, breweries and restaurants, Let’s Go Trivia has also established itself as a leader in trivia events for corporate and private individuals.
The primary goal for Let’s Go Trivia is to entertain trivia players with a fun, quick paced game.
We aim to boost revenue in restaurants by drawing in loyal players weekly.
With year round trivia league play, Let’s Go Trivia separates itself and is not just “another trivia”.
Helping staff in restaurants earn more through our busy trivia nights, entertaining guests and providing great entertainment to team building corporate clients is what we are most proud of.
As our game is played through players phones, our trivia has a modern and and slick feel.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Our primary business prior to the lockdown was running live trivia in bars, breweries and restaurants. When all restaurants in NY were closed down overnight in March of 2020, we looked online for a platform to run our trivia games virtually. We found a suitable platform and began running our games live via zoom.
This allowed us to reach people all over the United States and Europe.
As a result we began hosting lots of virtual “happy hour” trivia events for corporations.
When business reopened, we found ourselves booking lots of trivia clients to run our game in person. This was a great light which came out of the darkness of the lockdown.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I was a career bartender who always loved trivia. At one bar I worked, I asked the owner if I could run a trivia night during one of my shifts. He agreed.
This trivia night quickly became successful.
I then pitched the idea of trivia to a nearby brewery, who accepted, and it quickly became a roaring success. The staff from another brewery came in a played one time and asked me if I would do that same at their brewery.
Before I knew it, I was five trivia nights per week and decided to make the leap to self employment.
We constantly pitch our service to restaurants with the goal of increasing their revenue during trivia night and creating a loyal trivia following.
With our success, more and more restaurants came onboard.
Our exposure at restaurants also lead us to being booked for private trivia events for birthday parties. fundraisers and corporate events.
