We recently connected with Garry Clare and have shared our conversation below.
Garry, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
After removing myself a bit from the fashion industry into now building my name in the barbering industry the idea was to build the same kind of personality that was given to me by professional barbers when I needed help as a kid. In the world of fashion and creating clothing I wasn’t able to see the appreciation from my consumer regarding what I created and within the fashion world a lot of people were not interested in helping upcoming designers in the same field as them. I decided right then and there that I wanted to learn as much about barbering so I could help any young woman or man to reach their goals. I wanted to be a pro in this industry by studying and watched every one from barber shop owners, to barbers , and barber YouTube influencers. I went to school full time and worked a graveyard shift so I could complete my degree in a year.
honestly my wife was definitely my inspiration to this journey and she know my first love was making clothes but she seen the joy I had when I was cutting hair to spark the idea of me doing it professionally. On the break of completing my program to get my license Covid hit and stop everything and during the days and weeks of not knowing what would happen next. I jumped on social media instagram live and created a chat channel called Talkurbarbershit and this was the formula that started my business idea. It was an honor to see so many barbers tune in to sit and chat with me about what made them decide to be a barber. Starting from only 100 followers to now reaching 2000 followers on my channel and still growing my YouTubeChannel so many people in my field are extremely happy and supportive that I created a channel to speak for them and share with it really takes to be a professional leader in the barbering community.
Garry, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Already understanding the struggles it took me when I was a fashion designer I had the courage to still make a decision about my future in the barbering industry. From doing local fashion shows to now sitting in a barbershop in Inglewood California trying to get customers to trust me with their hair was the scariest thing ever. All my potential future earnings were now based on my potential customer service skills as a barber. I already had a structure that would help me with this business which would guide me through connecting to my customer base while acquiring new customers. After a few months I was seeing more and more clients that were interested in my business and wanted me to continue to provide them with the best haircut.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I have always been interested to learning more about social networking and social marketing. What’s been very interesting about this approach is that it allows me to share my knowledge and experience with others in all areas of the world including my local community in Inglewood ca. My customers love how I create a lifestyle detail design with my social media page to show them what I can create for them with my barbering skills and tips. The more I post the more clients I acquire. My profile show’s clients that I’m interested in doing the best business of my work and I value their time and energy as a customer. Having these platforms like instagram, tiktok, twitter, and facebook communities helps me to get more followers and more clients that are looking for a person like myself to help them with the needs of having a hairstyles and barber like me.
