We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Garrick Scott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Garrick thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind my brand is to tell the world my story in a creative way that is relatable to people but through fashion. Each and every design or piece that I have created tells a story from the designs all the way down to the color schemes chosen.
Garrick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Garrick Scott. I’m a fashion designer and stylist from Galveston, Texas. I started taking an interest in styling while attending Stephen F. Austin State University. I joined an fashion organization on campus called Fashion N Motion (FNM) in 2015. I only signed up to do promotion for the show because I was a little nervous and didn’t know what I wanted to do. My first show actually styling models was in the spring semester of 2016. After my first semester of styling I was nominated to be head stylist. I was head stylist for my last 2 years of college. After I graduated college I decided to move to Dallas, Texas to work on my clothing line and build up my clientele for my styling service. Upon moving to Dallas, a good friend of mine David Choice asked me to join his organization COZY. COZY is very well known in Dallas and other cities for their event planning and hospitality services. We have barbers (Michael Clark, Joshual Sheridan), photographers (FlashbyBen), real estate agents, graphic designers, DJs (DJ Hozé), athletes, fashion designers, stylist and more.
I came up with my clothing brand name in 2021 after my uncle (Jarmon Hawkins) passed away. I was on the phone with my mother (Jacqueline Scott), and she was helping me brainstorm some name choices. Finally after 2 hours on the phone we finally came up with The Fallen. Which stands for “No matter how many times you fall, rise again”. I spent all of 2021 testing out different manufacturers overseas getting samples as I planned out my first official collection drop. Towards the end of 2021, in November I went home to visit my family back in Galveston County for the holidays. On that trip home I decided to officially move home so I could focus on my brand for real.
What seperates me from other brands is my non stop grind and hustle. Im never not working, I’m not scared to take risk. My brand tells my story in a creative way that is relatable to anyone because we all go through thing in life. I know that by me showcasing my talents with fashion and also telling my story within my designs it will make it more meaningful to the person purchasing my clothes.
What I’m most proud of about my brand is the growth I’ve made in such a short time frame. You wouldn’t think that I’ve only had my brand a little over a year now. January of 2022 I had my first official clothing drop and from that day the non stop grind started. You can now purchase my clothes from 2 different storefronts in Texas. Tapered Solution located in Downtown Dallas at 211 North Ervay St.. on the 10th floor and The Closet Houston located on the 2nd floor of the famous Johnny Dang Co in Houston, Texas. I’ve had the privilege to get artist like NLE Choppa, Lil Boosie, Sauce Walka, Rizzo Rizzo, BFG Straap, Big Legend GF, Nykobandz, OG Bobby Billions, Hotboy Wes of 1017, Lil CJ Kasino, Yung Smoody, Voochie P, 1AMBABYJOKER and more. NFL players like Desmond King (Houston Texans) Jalen Reagor (Minnesota Vikings), Juanyeh Thomas (Dallas Cowboys), Laviska Shenault Jr. (Carolina Panthers) and more. Content creators/influencers like Chris Cousans, PHOR from Black Ink Crew. My brand will also be featured in an up and coming movie called “The Masquerade” directed by my close friend/brother Justin Williams. I’ve also received recognition from the mayor of Houston for my work with my brand. Thank Jaleah Davis for nominating me for that award. I was also invited to be on this Fire Side Chat Panel for Footlocker Houston. I want to thank Ash Lo and the rest of the Footlocker Houston team for that opportunity, that meant a lot to me. Lastly, I recently had my very first fashion show for my brand. The Fallen Presents: The New Era Spring/Summer Fashion Show. The fashion show featured other up and coming brands from Houston, Dallas and Louisiana. 1nelife clothing, Dripset Gear, Vanity Boutique Collection, and Being Up Clothing.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me it’s been just putting myself out there and not caring about who supports and focus on who does. A stranger will make you rich before a person you know.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My brand started to really get recognition on social media when I met Sauce Walka at The Sauce Factory on a shoot of his music video “No Doctor”. He wore my brand in the video and had me as an extra in the video as well. Same weekend he went to Dallas with the rest of TSF for a show and wore my brand for the show.
