We recently connected with Garrett Hampton and have shared our conversation below.
Garrett, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
Earlier, absolutely! I have always had a love for art, I have been a musician since I was 11 and working on my graphic and web design since 15. I knew that grab bag was what I wanted my future to look like and music has became the dominant one. I started releasing my own music in 2019 but I had been rapping for school projects or goofing iff with friends sporadically since 2012. I’ll always dig up another memory of me rapping as a kid and wish I had pursued it more then. If I had those few extra years of knowledge and time to build a catalog under my belt I certainly think I’d be closer to where I want to be but the personal growth I have had in recent years were good to have under my belt as an artist.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name’s Garrett Hampton and I am an artist. I have been a musician since middle school and studied design in high school and college and found piece of both that I wanted my future to follow. The first time I remember rapping for somebody, was when drive thru raps were trending in the 2010’s; I had my uncle Sam take my brother, my friend Zach, and I to McDonald’s just so I could do one I had rehearsed on YouTube the night before. It was’t until the SoundCloud era years later that people I personally knew start dropping their own stuff on YouTube and started inspiring me to do the same. My final exam for American Literature my junior year me and a couple friends really rapped about politics to Plug Walk and Pound Cake. A year after that I’m wrapping up my senior year, I used my Macbook and Turtle Beach headset I had for YouTube and Twitch at the time and spent a solid 2-3 months working on my first single. Had the cover shot and edited, recorded the song myself, and put it up on YouTube and SoundCloud. Ready to go and released on the night of my high school graduation.
Since then I have released 4 projects, done graphic design work such as cover art and logos for myself and other artists, as well as promote other creative content throughout my socials and artist community Almost Famous Entertainment.
I promote other artists work through the previously mentioned page on Instagram, Tiktok, and Discord.
I offer vocal and written features for music and I make social media art, logos, cover art, etc.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have said since the very beginning, “I don’t want to be Drake” and that’s just my dramatic way of saying I don’t want to or need to be this infeasible superstar. The glorified image of having numerous houses and cars has always been absurd to me. Cliche as it sounds, I want to make money doing what I love with people I love and that can’t be bound by a typical 9-5 job. Financial freedom from my own art and music sounds ideal.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
With my main focus being music, I spent years basically whining on social media about people that claimed to be close to me not being active parts of my music career. I always thought about my friends that make cool art or cook or do hair and I’m like “Wow that’s cool I’m going to share that!”. It wasn’t until recently that I had thought about it specifically through a music eye, to everybody (the people you know especially) you’re just another artist. Even if you’re music is just THAT good, people need something to latch on to and if they don’t connect they won’t care. If anybody the people “closest” to you are the ones that take the most “convincing” to reach the level of support they claim to be at.
