We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Garrett Cline. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Garrett below.
Hi Garrett, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
Everyone needs people who believe in them, and it’s best if the first two people are your parents. Growing up in a home where music was important was crucial to my formation as I stepped into the opportunities that God has provided for me. Whenever my brother or I had the idea that we wanted to pursue music, there was never a negative word about it. My parents always just affirmed our dreams. I remember one really specific moment when I found out that there were people who made a full-time living playing on records in Nashville. One of my favorite bass players did that, and so when I was 14 I told my Dad, “I think I would like to do that”. His response, “you can definitely do that.” When it came time to shift gears in our career and take a risk, it’s my patents that have been the biggest believers and supporters. Having a champion is important at any stage of life, but it’s really a game changer when you have that champion from birth in your parents.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a bass player, songwriter and worship leader from Bowling Green, KY. I have been fortunate enough to be a part of a lot of great music over the years in the church and in the country genre through touring and recording. What I’m most excited about right now is my band “CLINE” that we have with my wife, Jacquelyn and my brother, Darrick. We currently have a song out called ‘Worthy One’ and are working on next steps to release more music. You can find out more on our socials. So that’s what I’m doing now, but I really got into doing music as a profession through touring and recording with country artist Dylan Scott. Darrick and I spent 9 years in his camp thanks to a connection through my friend and songwriter Dallas Wilson. We met so many amazing people in that time that led to us to being able to branch out on our own and pursue music in a new way.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think everyone who steps into a creative space needs to clearly define their vision and mission. There’s nothing more frustrating to those in the music industry than an artist who doesn’t know who they are. For us, our mission and vision is to connect people to the love of Jesus through music. We want to provide the soundtrack of life for people as they are on their journey. That focus helps us make decisions with a clear mind. We want everything we do to fall in line with that vision, mission and focus.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To follow along with our goal and mission, the most rewarding part of our journey is being able to put language to what people feel. Helping people express emotion and feelings to God and to each other is a beautiful thing that music and melody can do.
