Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to GARIE CHAVEZ. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi GARIE, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful art project I’ve done is the Heart Fractal Art. In 1987, my son Erik was diagnosed with liver cancer at the age of one. Thanks to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, he will turn 39 years old this year. As a parent of a cancer survivor, I handcraft the heart with fractal art and donate part of the sales to Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation. The fractal art on the wood represents each child stricken with this disease, and the heart is the hope for a permanent cure.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
How you got into your industry / business / discipline / craft
It all started in 1982 when I had just moved to Arizona. I was in a small apartment with no furniture, so I decided to build my own. Fast forward to 2020, I began recovering logs from weathered-down trees that homeowners and tree service companies in metropolitan Phoenix provided. This allowed me to create 100% sustainable, repurposed wood art and custom electric and bass guitars.
What type of products/services/creative works you provide?
My art designs include:
– Musical instruments and accessories: custom handmade electric and bass guitars with fractal art and live edge guitar hangers and stands.
– Furniture: live edge dining tables; coffee tables; front entry tables; sofa tables; bar-top tables; end tables; office desks; floating headboards; and shelves.
– Functional art for the home: live edge charcuterie boards; magnetic knife holder, both table-top and wall-mount styles; magnetic firearms holders; cribbage boards; etc.
– Sports memorabilia displays: live edge football holder and baseball bat holders.
– Memorabilia item: live edge guitar fractal wall art, memorial horse heart; abstract wall art; fractal crosses and hearts.
What do you think sets you apart from others?
Since every design is custom, listening to my customers and what they need or want, then patience, persistence, passion and attention to detail are the key ingredients to my work. My goal is for my clients to have a piece of handcrafted art they cherish, and know it is truly one-of-a-kind and made especially for them.
What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work
I’m most proud and excited to always give back to the community. I’ve been playing guitar since 1975. Fast forward to 2023, I built my first custom handmade electric guitar. This year, I donated a custom handmade electric guitar to Coopstock annual fundraising event established by musician Alice Cooper to support his Solid Rock Teen Centers. These centers provide free music, art, and vocational training programs for teenagers aged 12 to 20 in Phoenix, Mesa, and Goodyear, Arizona. At the end of the silent auction, the guitar went for $4,400.
I also donate part of the sales of guitar hanger fractal art to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund A 501-C3 nonprofit charity that provides services and financial assistance for all types of career musicians and music industry professionals.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can best support local artists by recognizing the value they bring to our community. Attending local art shows and purchasing items significantly impacts an artist, both financially as well as their creativity because someone believes in their product. Providing community events and media exposure helps artists gain recognition and build the local talent’s brand awareness.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to have my art be part of every household in this world. Since all of my art is made from repurposed wood, it’s vital to remember that repurposing and recycling are crucial to the future health of our planet Earth. The benefits of having repurposed art help conserve natural resources, protect our ecosystems and wildlife, reduce demand for raw materials, cut climate-changing carbon emissions and save energy. I am very proud to be able to contribute in any small way to allow our next generation to enjoy life here on Earth.
