We were lucky to catch up with Gargi Duggal recently and have shared our conversation below.
Gargi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I had a dream to start my own media house from a very young age. Having a knack for creativity, 5 years back I decided to launch a media house that focuses on film making and digital entertainment content.
The name of my company ‘Gargi Productions’ was born as I believed that eponymy creates a stronger association between the entrepreneur and their firm. It increases the benefit or risk to the founder’s reputation and so they are more driven. An eponymous name can also set expectations that customers will be doing business directly with the founder. For a business model like mine that is the biggest advantage. I want my customers to know that I’m reachable to work with. It establishes a kind of strong confidence between the two.
Within 5 years of span, we have established a solid fan base across the globe. We have produced several types of digital content, such as music videos, talk shows and short movies. The label enjoys entertaining loyal and sincere audiences. Our primary objective is to keep everyone entertained with unique and exciting content on all digital platforms. We focus on showcasing elite talent by providing notable opportunities. Our goal is to keep you enthralled by engaging you in our projects.
Gargi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an actress, published model, performer, and a business owner. I started dancing at the age of 2 years old. I am a trained professional dancer and I’ve obtained a bachelor’s degree in Bharatnatyam, a classical Indian dance form. As I grew older, I realized my passion for learning and knowing more about the film industry kept growing stronger and stronger. During my university days, I decided to do a thesis on ‘Spatial interpretation in Indian Cinema’ and did an internship under renowned art director Sharmistha Roy who did art direction for big banners like Yash Raj Films. I worked with her for quite a few blockbuster films made during those times.
After graduation I moved to the United States. As an immigrant, the hardships were real, at times it was hard to meet the ends. During those tough times I still couldn’t convince myself to quit my dream. After many years of hard work and dedication, I finally decided to start my own production house to showcase my talent and passion. The primary goal of the media firm is to keep everyone entertained by providing exclusive and engaging material through digital platforms. We have created a variety of videos, including music videos and short films. We love amusing, avid and authentic audiences.
The kind of media house that I own is rare to find in the South Asian community especially in the US. Actually, I’m the only South Asian female who owns such a media house here in the US. For the younger generations, I want to be the first step towards fulfilling their careers in acting, dancing, modeling, singing, filming, and videography. That is why we have recently launched a talent hunt where we scout talents from the United States and continue to create amazing films and music videos. This will be our way to promote new and fresh talent and make a difference in the community. The talented youth has the key to creating a better future. And, ‘Gargi Productions’ will be their stepping stone to do so.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
We all know that many small businesses have a very short life span. It may be due to funding issues, lack of marketing or the owner gives up on the struggle he/she faces. I have affirmed myself that no matter how much struggle I’ll face, I’ll stand solid like a strongest pillar to make this business work. I work full time as an IT professional and ‘Gargi Productions’ gets funded through my IT job. I have not yet reached the stage to see the ROI, but I do know that one day I’ll be able to generate an earning out of my passion business.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Consistency is the key to success. You soon forget people or things that are no longer visible or present. It’s the same rule of thumb that implies when it comes to having a good presence on social media. Remember this, subject to everyone’s horizon, and when you own a business it is very important to stay in everyone’s sight and mind.
