We were lucky to catch up with Gamesia Tate recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gamesia, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The main mission of my brand is to not only inspire others who look like me, but to help give them the confidence to take that leap of faith and take on their dreams. This is meaningful to me because being a black woman, we have to work a little harder for our accomplishments. “Society” can be very cruel at times on top of the continued racism that we face on a daily basis. I want to show that we can still thrive amongst all the negativity as long as you stay focused, stay positive, and be consistent.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve always been interested in makeup as a little girl, but never knew how to apply it. I would only wear eyeliner, maybe mascara and lipgloss. In 2015, I taught myself how to do my own makeup and got good at it very quickly. It was an outlet for me as I was going through a rough period at the time. People also started asking me to do their makeup. I created my YouTube channel in 2016 and then started doing makeup for others. My channel grew, but under unforeseen circumstances, my channel was deleted and I created a new one in 2021. Doing makeup for other people became a sanctuary for me, because I was making people happy. And to me, that was fulfilling. I do hope to explore that venture again one day. Many people don’t know that I used to write poetry as a child. I have been working on being an artist and creating music because I feel that is the one thing that can bring people together.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being consistent. Consistency is definitely key. You also have to take note of how your posts perform and try to keep up with trends. This will also enable you to learn your market better and allows you to know what type of content you should be posting.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Literally everything! When they say you learn something everyday, it’s the absolute truth! But one thing, I can honestly say is that I would have definitely done more research and stay more focused.
