We were lucky to catch up with Galya Gornishka recently and have shared our conversation below.
Galya , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am happy to be a full time makeup artist and business owner. I am a full time makeup artist for a first time this year. I always used to have another job in the past. I am an accountant by my college degree and I used to work in corporate America for many years. I finally decided to quit last year and pursue my passion in makeup full time. Best decision ever!
No I do not miss having a regular job. Perhaps I never want to have a regular job ever again. I love my career and my business. Yes it is harder, yes you work 24/7 but it is all worth it because you are living your dream.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am originally from Bulgaria and I moved to Charleston SC when I was 19 because I got accepted to college. I studied finance and accounting and this is what I was planning to work. I was always interested in makeup and always loved it. I used to watch YouTube 24/7 and do my own makeup for no reason.
I just didn’t know that I could have a career in this filed and actually make money. I had a lot of limiting beliefs and I was told I need to go to college and get a corporate job to be successful in life.
After I graduated college and I saw how little corporate America pays I decided that I need a part time job on the weekends. I started doing makeup and was charging 20$ a person. I charge 10 times more now lol.
This is when my passion for makeup really started growing.
The one thing I am most proud about is that I came to the USA from Europe alone at 19 years old and I managed to graduate college and create my own business that bring me 6 figures income. I am making doctors Money by following my heart and chasing my dream. Once again all on my own by not knowing anyone in the USA and not having my family or friends by my side. And I think this is HUGE.
The number one thing I want my clients to know about me is that I focus on the quality of my work and this is the number one thing I want to provide. No matter the cost no matter the obstacles I am always going to provide high quality work and I always chase perfection. I wan my work to be perfect and I won’t stop trying until I get there. Quality over quantity always.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think we need to stop acting like being a creative is not a real job. I think we need to be more supportive and not ask for free work and be more respectful.
I think society needs to change the idea of going to college and getting a corporate job as being the best most successful thing for your life.
I think society needs to normalize having jobs that make us happy.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes! Two books in particular. Think and Grow Rich and The Magic.
My life and my career changed after I red those books and implemented all the practices mentioned in them .
