We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gallie Fisher. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gallie below.
Gallie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
Hope; it doesn’t belong to me alone, but we all have access to it: a miracle given to us from God, and the reason for everything good that exists.
We are in a continuous battle between fear and love, throughout our lifetimes, a struggle that challenges us to persevere.
People will speak in their own language and understanding; sometimes what they say is true, and sometimes it is just a reflection of their “self”.
My life is just a reflection of my “self”: imperfect, but made perfect through Christ, and I hope I am remembered for this acceptance.
Gallie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born with a gift that I didn’t know how to use, and am still learning: song! While some write laws, craft equations, analyze history, and practice medicine, I have (both eagerly and hesitantly) approached a calling in music, which, amazingly, includes all of the verbs above. From a girl’s age, I wrote from the soul, hardly understanding how or where the ideas came, then developed my craft through practice, spent years analyzing harmony, production, and performance as I grew and studied others’ work, and now practice everything in a myriad of ways. I’m obsessed with music. I’ve had the honor of teaching, mentoring, working in artist development, producing, and collaborating on projects worldwide. I’m most proud of connecting with such a supportive, creative, and passionate community; because of such people, I have had an incredibly fulfilling career, and know there is still much more to come.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Back in 2018, I was confronted with a season of change that forever affected my life. I was newly married, and for the first time ever, my work had garnered enough attention to have me writing for EDM labels, placing music in TV and film, and touring in an amazing band. In addition to all this, I was going through a spiritual awakening that shifted my understanding of life and challenged me to grow in ways I never had before, particularly, accepting my own worth and embracing life’s potential – which included the possibility of success!
Up until that point, my bills had been paid by babysitting, customer service, and ghostwriting, so when my goals actually manifested, I was terrified. Insomnia crippled me. My personal life fractured, and friends and family watched helplessly as I went for weeks without sleep, even went to the hospital when my brain and body deteriorated so much I could not function. I had no idea how to step into this new chapter confidently and almost gave up on everything I had been working towards.
Spoiler alert: it was just anxiety!
Over the next weeks, and months, my spirit became quiet and I submitted to God. I did everything – and I mean everything – to release my fears and accept the change… many methods of mental and physical self-care that I still practice! This is actually the origin story for the song “Release Me” (which became one of my most successful songs) and the reason my relationship with God has deepened so much today.
Instead of running, I persevered, which only means that I chose to receive the love I had always been writing and singing about – so freely given – all I had to do was accept it.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Business can be such a tricky thing for creatives. We, the lovers of fantasy and imagination, can be easily enchanted by art and forget (or neglect) business as an art itself. I have been sobered many times (especially early on in my career) by making assumptions, trusting situations before trust was earned, and lost rights to intellectual property, missed revenue, and I’ve even gotten into legal battles over my own brand! These lessons are good to learn, but even better, avoiding having to.
Ideally, everything would be fair and balanced, but we just don’t live in a perfect society. My advice for creators looking to actualize their dreams in the physical world is to practice discernment. Objectify situations before contributing to them. Negotiate. Protect your peace with an iron fist! Your creativity has immense value, and it is wise to consider.
