We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gail Starr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gail below.
Hi Gail , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I reside in South Africa, a country plagued with extreme inequality and an alarming unemployment rate of 32.7%, ranking among the highest in the world. Unfortunately, our government is more focused on their self-enrichment rather than on fostering economic growth and facilitating job opportunities for its citizens, leaving many struggling to care for their families. Prior to the pandemic, I had always been self-employed, but when the lockdowns caused my business to shut down, I turned to the internet for new possibilities. It was then that I discovered the life-changing potential of the online world and, in particular, Kajabi. Although South Africa is slowly catching up, we are far behind in the adoption of online programs. By immersing myself in this new space, I realized the incredible potential it holds for people worldwide. The recent sociopolitical unrest (a week of violent riots)only further solidified my resolve to succeed and to introduce more people, especially women in South Africa, to the online world. With Kajabi, I have built a successful services business and am now able to work with clients globally. This not only allows me to earn a stronger currency but also frees me from geographic constraints. My mission is to empower others to achieve their business dreams, whether that be through my Kajabi services or coaching programs. By doing so, I hope to assist people in taking control of their own lives and breaking free from reliance on the government.

Gail , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My tagline is “I ❤ Kajabi” and for a good reason. When I first ventured into the world of online business, I was on the lookout for a software platform to house my online training courses (although that is no longer my focus). It was then that I discovered Kajabi and fell in love with it almost instantly. I had the privilege of meeting an incredible mentor who taught me how to use Kajabi and build programs, and I knew that this was the path I wanted to take. For the next three years, I devoted myself to learning everything about Kajabi and the online space. I tried my hand at every kind of work until I discovered my true passion, which led me to create a Kajabi Services Business that fits my lifestyle perfectly.
What I absolutely love about my work is taking clients from our first meeting and leading them through strategy sessions to map out their projects or builds. Then, whether it’s through coaching or building the project for them, I help them bring their ideas to life. I particularly enjoy helping people decide on launch strategies and guiding them through the execution of their offers. This year, 2023, marks my plan to expand my offers further by introducing group coaching programs and workshops.
Having started from scratch myself (never having even made an online purchase), I have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by new online entrepreneurs. Often, they’re led to believe that building an online business is easy, only to find themselves overwhelmed and without a clear roadmap. That’s where I come in. Nicknamed the “Unstuck Queen,” I have a talent for grasping the issues at hand and guiding people through them. My passion is to demonstrate that a 50-year-old former swimming teacher can successfully build a Kajabi Services Business and inspire others to realize their full potential

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Right from the outset, as soon as I joined Kajabi and began learning how it worked, I knew I wanted to assist people without any expectation of anything in return. There were two main reasons for this decision. Firstly, I simply enjoy helping others and love seeing the satisfaction of someone getting unstuck and progressing along their path. But secondly, and perhaps more importantly at the time, I was learning more about Kajabi and discovering the challenges faced by my ideal clients.
Through this process of assisting people, I gained an incredible amount of knowledge and insight. Every morning, as soon as I got into the office, I would make a point of visiting Kajabi Facebook Groups and answering any help wanted questions. And I did the same each evening before heading home. Over time, I began receiving DMs from grateful clients who I had helped in the group, even if I had only assisted them once or twice. I realized that by offering help for free, I was building a reputation and attracting new clients to me without even trying.
Through this approach, I have met some truly wonderful people, and I always encourage newcomers to my industry to do the same. My advice is to offer advice and assistance freely because you never know who might be watching and in need of Kajabi help

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
For me, the most challenging aspect of my Kajabi journey has been around the money mindset. As someone from South Africa, where the currency (Rand) is significantly weaker than the dollar (from which most of my income comes), I struggled to accept the prices that my industry charged for their services. The exchange rate of R18 to $1 meant that my earning power was significantly greater, but I was doing the same amount of work, so I felt as though I was taking advantage of my clients. Additionally, I’ve never been comfortable charging people for my help, as I genuinely enjoy assisting others, often doing it for free. As a result, I’ve had to put in considerable effort to work on this side of my business.
To help overcome these challenges, I turned to Denise Duffield-Thomas, an entrepreneur and money mindset coach whom I have been following for some time. She has written several books, including “Get Rich Lucky B%tch” and “Chill and Prosper,” and runs a program called Money Bootcamp, which helps you work through any money mindset issues you may be facing. Denise has been an excellent business mentor, providing guidance on setting boundaries and working smarter. Working with her on these programs has been an eye-opening experience, and I’ve learned so much about myself.
Over the past three years, I’ve also read many other books, such as “Atomic Habits,” “The Gap and the Gain,” and “Story Brand.” I love learning more about myself and the work I’m doing on myself, which I believe is helping me to continue growing and scaling my business
