We recently connected with Gaby Viteri and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gaby , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
1. You have to show up every day. You don’t have to be good, you certainly don’t have to be perfect, you don’t even have to want to be there, but you have to show up every day.
2. Once you show up, have a morning practice. Lean in to the art of the ritual. Make tea, stretch, meditate, write affirmations, take a few deep breaths before you start your day. Get grounded because the day can be unsettling. A morning routine will get you ready for anything.
3. Do not be afraid to be vulnerable; that’s where your authenticity is. The more authentic you can be, the more you will connect with people/clients.
4. You are the company you keep. Get used to being around people more successful than you. Ask questions. Network authentically. Find a mentor and when you can, be one.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As an entrepreneur I’ve been fortunate to be able to work in many different aspects of many different creative businesses. I’ve been a gallery owner, blogger, fine jewelry expert, showroom manager, creative director, marketing manager, independent curator, content creator and I even have a background in social work. I’ve been around for enough time to have cultivated a clientele that keeps me busy doing all of the above during different times of the year. My company The Curated Look is an umbrella for my independent consulting and all things curated. In 2022 I noticed there was a big gap when it came to everything related to local women artists. I founded First Female to create art driven programs and support my friends. I officially re-launched First Female with board of local artists and we are preparing for a very active season. Our general mission is to support female artists by offering networking opportunities, education and career development, as well as exposure. We also aim to change attitudes in regards to the value of female artists and connect female creatives in Palm Beach County in a fun and supportive environment. We are creating a vibrant community, and it has already been met with so much love. This is what I’m most proud of. There comes a time in your career where giving back is no longer optional. Making these deep connections within the space of female artists is a passion of mine and I’m confident First Female will continue to grow.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Coming from a fine jewelry background, but really, this goes for every business, being impeccable with your word and building trust with your clientele is invaluable. You can spend money creating content and building a website, but nothing can substitute this trust in yourself, the product or the business. In my experience this confidence and trust is built when you are working on your business from the ground up. It’s part of the mission statement and how you treat yourself and everyone around you. If your clientele can’t trust you, they won’t stick around for very long. Building trust for me has come by way of unbeatable customer service, delivering an excellent product, and most importantly speaking to the client with total honesty and transparency.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
As an entrepreneur pivoting is a way of life! Change is the only thing that’s constant, so pivoting is happening sometimes on a daily basis. A big pivoting moment for me was COVID. Learning to do business without being able to have contact with customers was key. I had to get even more creative without my team, and became adept at communicating in different ways. It was a vulnerable time for everyone, so I had to get vulnerable too. Social media was an important part of staying connected with clients and I was sharing everything with them from recipes to DIY to my search for a foster pup. I had to stay authentic and continue to show up, no matter how awful the news were. I kept things light and positive and was always empathetic. My sales never fell, and I had record months without having to leave my house. On my day to day, I pivot constantly. Meetings get changed, budgets get slashed and vendors don’t always deliver. Pivoting is second nature because that’s just a part of being a small business owner and entrepreneur. Would not have it any other way.
