We recently connected with Gaby Martinez and have shared our conversation below.
Gaby, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
I was very moved the other day, because one of my students came to me and told me that she was incredibly happy to have started pole dancing in my studio, that we have an incredible, supporting and loving community and she she has never felt awkward or uncomfortable in the studio doing any of the activities we do there. She told me that we, Aerial Fitness Miami, helped her overcome her depression and her anxiety. And that right there, is the main reason I keep going every day. Because I know that somehow we are touching people’s life’s and changing them for good.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a Pole Sports and Aerial Arts studio located in Pinecrest. We opened our door two years ago (our anniversary is on March 1st!). Since the very first day the goal has been to create a nice environment, filled with good vibes where you can feel confortable and welcomed! We offer many classes like flexibility, spinning pole flow, aerial silks, aerial hoop, pole dance and pole sport!
We are proud of the community we are building, many of our students have made forever friends inside our studio and that’s the best for us!!
We are now offering privated lessons, we are also renting the studio for sports events or for instructors that are looking for a space to teach their classes. We even have two Fitness clothing brands working inside our studio! We are working with @supernovapolewear; they make pole dance outfits for daily practice and for competition, and also personalized shirts and more fitness apparel. And we also have @ninefitapparel with us, they have the best quality leggings and sports bras in the market! Best quality, best value!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I remember that my husband and I ended up with less than $50 for both for the rest of the month after opening the studio! It was crazy how it all happened. But everything we put into our business came from savings and sacrifice. We had the fortune of having an amazing landlord and all the providers and workers we hired to make from this huge warehouse an amazing pole studio were amazing as well! I think everything happened in the right time and we were in the right place! The start was a little of a bumpy road but with time and hard work things started to pick up!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Definitely yes. I started pole dancing almost 10 years ago. And I did it just for fun, just because I wanted to do something different and something new. I was never an athletic, I had zero dance background but I wanted to do this. And after the first time I knew this was going to last for a while. A couple of years after I started teaching at my friends studio in Venezuela (Aerial Fitness Caracas, from there comes our name) and the rest is story. What I used to do for fun is what I get to do for a living today!
