We recently connected with Gabriella Ramirez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Gabriella thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Finding those key vendors can often be make or break for a brand. Can you talk to us about how you found your key vendors?
When we first started Las Brewhas we knew we wanted to support indigenous groups of Latin America specifically, the Amazon. As a New Yorker, we had no idea where to sustainably sourced these ingredients. It took months of research, finding one tiny little Facebook page and connecting with the owner. She’s indigo to Brazilian and lives between Miami and Brazil, she insures that the ingredients are being sustainably , sourced and that the indigenous communities are being paid fairly. She also makes sure that they are not over harvest in the lungs of our planet. When she went over all these beautiful practices she takes for these ingredients we feel comfortable with partnering with amazing with this amazing woman.
Gabriella, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are Latina/Latine NY-based, family run small business. LasBrewhas has been a 10+ year working progress which started with Gabby, who struggled with painful cystic acne. She tried everything from antibiotic shots inject to her face and prescriptions to ”cure” her skin, which aggravated her sensitive skin more. So she went to school as an esthetician to get down to the root cause. During the pandemic she was encouraged by her family to combine her passion for healthy beauty, sustainability, and to honor her Indigenous roots and came up with Las Brewhas. Supporting Indigenous women run tribes.
Supporting local farmers in the U.S.
Sustainably harvesting the Amazon rainforest.
Sustainable and biodegradable packaging.
Paying our tribes of the Amazon rainforest and Ghana fairly.
Leaving beauty behind, not waste.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Something I’ve been unlearning which was holding us back was being too humble. A big part of our community is valuing humility which is beautiful in some ways and toxic in others. I’ve had to learn how to show my accomplishments to others and not feel weird or like I’m showing off. I was so nervous posting that we were on Telemundo because I didn’t wanna seem like a show off. So that’s something I have to remind myself to let go of.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
One thing we strive is to meet our followers and have close relationships with them. Since we’re a smaller brand I’ve meet or have personally spoke with the majority of our clients. This bond makes us so thrilled and so our customers know we’re real and we care about their goals and concerns.
