We recently connected with Gabriella Gonzalez and have shared our conversation below.
Gabriella, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Being able to earn a full time living from doing something I love is absolutely the best feeling in the world. Did it come easy? No lol I have definitely sacrificed a lot to finally be in the position I am now. My first 5 years as an Artist were rewarding but I definitely wasn’t making any money or able to do this full time. I was always working 2 jobs minimum and doing makeup and hair on the side. I remember being in school and even after I graduated I did movies, commercials and multiple productions for free, but I did this because I wanted to get my feet wet in the industry and if that meant getting the experience and if there was even a slight chance I would meet a good connection I would jump for the opportunity. I was hungry because I wanted to be able to be a artist full time. In 2019 I moved to Las Vegas it was sort of spontaneous actually I was currently working a job as a Clinque Counter Manager and I had got a random gig in Las Vegas which was about 2 hours away from where I was currently living but I was determined to do the gig. So I came to vegas completed my gig ,got hired to come back for 3 more days and then someone reached out to me to be Key MUA for a music video, a little superstitious but I took that as a sign to pack up everything and move to vegas. Once I was out here I told myself your not gonna have a job anymore a normal one your gonna make makeup and hair work, and I Did! Since then I have been doing Hair and Makeup full-time in Las Vegas I’ve landed major commercials ,Forbes interviews ,and I am currently the Lead MUA for Chippendales, I’ve had the opportunity to do their calendar shoots and many more exciting projects.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi my Names Gabriella but I go by Gabbie I’ve been in the beauty industry for about 8 years now and I absolutely love it. Since I was little I’ve always wanted to do makeup and hair and it was always a matter of making it a reality for me.I specialize in all things beauty whether it be male grooming for a photo shoot or glamming you on your big day. My number 1 priority is always making sure you feel as good as you look. Im very proud to be able to be doing something I love and that never feels like work.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Lately word of mouth, the industry is small the best way I’ve been getting new clientele is by either past clients or fellow artist referring their clients to me which is a blessing. Im very fortunate to even have this opportunity with all the new sources and ways to get clients im lucky to be able to attract amazing clients.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Seeing my clients visions come to life after they’ve asked me to create something based off their words or inspiration is truly so rewarding .
