We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gabriela Velazquez . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gabriela below.
Gabriela, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I was asked to photograph a wedding last October which I was super nervous for and excited. I had always kept it small & local with my photography & this was a huge opportunity I knew I was ready for it; it was like a feeling of an instantly YES to something because it felt right in my heart if I can exaggerate a little bit. The wedding was truly amazing & the pictures turned out so beautifully I was impressed with myself & since I took that risk it allowed me to open doors for myself I never thought I would by gaining that extra confidence in my work.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I love when people ask me about my art through photography I always love to say I capture a scene through my photos. I want people to hear & feel my pictures. I started this when I was about 13 years old I started making videos about trips my family & I would go on, I loved taking pictures and going back to them & feeling like I was there again without being there physically! it’s always been a passion to bring something to life for me through my photography. My mission is to bring happiness & show people what or how they don’t see themselves. The reactions in their faces when they realize how beautiful they are through another humans eye is absolutely priceless to me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Making people feel like they’re photogenic even when they say they’re not. 100% of the time you need to be your true free self & let go & to know that I’m able to show them that part of themselves is wonderful to me.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I had limited resources when I initially got into photography so I would say knowing it’s ok to ask for help from others. Most of the time I held myself back because I thought it was a bother or I just didn’t have time for it but know it’s ok to ask for help or to borrow things if it’s going to help you in the future.
